“Picasso at the Lapin Agile,” Steve Martin’s absurdist comedy about a chance encounter at a Parisian bar between painter Pablo Picasso and physicist Albert Einstein before either of them became famous, will be staged by Classic Theater Guild (CTG) starting on Thursday, January 18, 2024, at Congregation Beth Israel in Schenectady.
Directed by CTG Vice-President Michael Silvia, “Picasso” will also be performed on Saturday evenings, January 20th and January 27th; Sunday afternoons, January 21st and January 28th, and Thursday night, January 25th. The Thursday and Saturday shows start at 7:30 p.m., while the Sunday afternoon matinees begin at 3 p.m.
A nine-person group of community theater veterans and newcomers are in the 80-minute show, performed without an intermission. The ensemble cast includes J. Scala as the titular character; Mike Reynolds as Einstein; Doug Gladstone as Gaston; Ash Visker as Germaine; CarolAnne Manzer as Suzanne; John Quinan as Sagot; Dalton Russell as The Visitor, Alexia Halsey as Schmendiman and Malachi Burnham as Freddy.
Tickets to “Picasso at the Lapin Agile” are $20/person if purchased at the door; advance tickets can be purchased online via EventBrite<http://EventBrite.com> link at https://facebook.com/events/s/picasso-at-the-lapin-agile-by-/253448827594067/
“Picasso at the Lapin Agile” opened Off-Broadway at the Promenade Theater in 1995. Martin revised his “Picasso” script in 2017; it is believed that this CTG production is the first time the new version will be performed in the Capitol Region.
Congregation Beth Israel is located at 2195 Eastern Parkway, Schenectady. Parking lot is on the temple's Union St side.
We hope you can join us to fill the hall with laughter!
