For Immediate Release

Not So Common Players
Auditions for Little Shop of Horrors
August 10h & 11th

Clifton Park: Not So Common Players, the musical theatre group in
Clifton Park, will hold auditions for Little Shop of Horrors, Wednesday,
August 10th and Thursday August 11th from 7-9 pm at the Locust Lane
Clubhouse (from Route 146 to Moe Road to Clifton Park Center Road, turn
West and then turn Left at Hemlock and then Right on Locust Lane),
Clifton Park. The production is sponsored by the Town of Clifton Park.
Performance dates are October 21, 22, 23 and October 27, 28, 29, 30.
Characters:
Seymour: 25ish. Today, we'd call Seymour a computer geek. When "Little
Shop" was first produced, he would have been called a nerd. And he is,
but a sweet and lovable one, and he has to be able to charm an audience
with his klutziness and social awkwardness. Highish baritone role, calls
for a strong singing voice.

Audrey: Mid to upper 20s is a woman who constantly seems to fall in with
the wrong kind of guy. Not too bright, but not a Judy Holliday, either.
Mostly, she's a person who has a winsome charm and adorability, an
innocence she has managed to preserve despite a life filled by abuse.
Soprano role, must be able to sing sweet ballads but also belt a couple
out of the park.

Orin: 30ish. He's good looking, cool and a sadist. Audience has to find
him funny despite his treatment of Audrey, or the show has a hole in the
middle. Baritone who gets a show-stopping finale and may also be used
for other roles in the play.

Mr. Mushnik: 55 or older. Very New Yorky, a great stereotype of the
gruff but basically good-hearted small businessman struggling to get by.
Character baritone. Singing not as important as acting and selling his
big duet with Seymour.

The Voice of Audrey 2: Think Barry White, only deeper. No on-stage
appearance until the curtain call, but his jive-inflected songs require
a skilled vocal actor. Bass who's comfortable at the top of his range.

Audrey 2 (The Plant): The plant is complex and requires a skilled
puppeteer, non-claustrophobic, to give Audrey 2 a genuine personality.
No singing required, just a willingness to work behind the scenes.

Three Girl Singers: Modeled on groups such as the Supremes, the ladies
are on stage much of the time as a vocal ensemble much like a Greek
chorus. Will also act in small roles. Must be comfortable with
Motown-like movement and tight harmony.

Three Guy Singers: A mirror of the Three Girl Singers.

Other than Seymour, Audrey and Mushnik, the cast will play one or more
character roles and provide street color.

Come to auditions with an upbeat number from a Broadway show. Please
bring music, an accompanist will be provided. Learning a song from
"Little Shop" can't hurt, but it is absolutely not a requirement.
Although "Little Shop" doesn't have any dance numbers as we usually
think of them, there is a LOT of movement for the ensemble and some for
the principals. Come to auditions dressed comfortably, as the
choreographer will teach a simple combination to all auditioning, who
will then be required to perform the steps in groups of varying size, so
we can get a feeling for how people move. In other words, you don't have
to be a great dancer, but you
have to be able to learn choreography and work neatly in an ensemble.
