Greg and Kate move to Manhattan after twenty-two years of child-raising in
the suburbs. Greg's career is winding down, while Kate's is beginning to offer
more opportunities. The last thing Kate wants is a new dog, but that's
exactly what Greg finds on a soul-searching walk in the park: Sylvia, a
street-smart canine (played by an actress) who quickly becomes a major bone of
contention between Greg and Kate. Even with advice from friends and a therapist whose
gender is not readily apparent, the marriage is put into serious jeopardy
until, after a series of hilarious and touching complications, Greg and Kate
learn to compromise, and Sylvia becomes a valued part of their lives. Written
by A.R. Gurney, author of The Dining Room and Love Letters.
