Schenectady Light Opera announces

NINE Audition Dates

Auditions will be held at the Opera House, 826 State Street, Schenectady NY
on January 31 and February 1, 2006. Sign-in begins at 7pm—Auditions at
7:30pm.

Production dates are May 5-7 and 11-14, 2006.

 

Director/Choreographer Thomas Dalton Bambury, Musical Director Dave Cash &
Producers Dave Dixon & Marlene Countermine are pleased to announce auditions
for SLOC’s final show of the season, NINE. The Tony award winning show
originally appeared on Broadway in 1982 starring Raul Julia, Karen Akers and
Anita Morris. 

 

Plot:

Guido Contini is a famous film director at a crisis point. He’s seems washed
up artistically. His last three films have not set the box office alight and
his marriage is crumbling. He goes to Venice for a refreshing stay at a spa.
His wife, Luisa, is there and also his current mistress, Carla. Then there’s
his protégée, Claudia Nardi, the well-known actress. How to choose between
them? An added complication is the vivacious producer, Liliane, who wants
him to create a new film. Guido retreats into memories from the past.

 

Guido is having a mental block about an idea for Liliane’s picture. Claudia
Nardi arrives in Venice from Paris, at Luisa’s urging, and suddenly the
ideas start flowing. But Guido’s private life is still in disarray. He
betrays Luisa’s affection and alienates Carla and Claudia. They abandon him
and he abandons the film. He contemplates suicide, but is saved by a vision
of himself as a nine-year-old who appears and urges him to grow up and go
after his real love – his wife Luisa.

 

Besides the leading male character, a cast of 20 women (main female
characters and female ensemble) and one young man (playing young Guido) will
be selected.

 

Main Characters:

GUIDO CONTINI: 35-45 yrs old Baritone to 2nd Tenor 

LUISA (Guido’s Wife): 30-45 yrs old Alto/Mezzo

CARLA (Guido’s Mistress): 25-35 yrs old Alto/Mezzo

LILIANE LEFLEUR (Guido’s movie producer): 45-60 yrs old Alto/Mezzo

CLAUDIA (Guido’s Leading Lady): 25-45 yrs old Alto/Soprano

GUIDO’S MOTHER: 50-75 yrs old Mezzo Soprano

YOUNG GUIDO: 10-12 yrs old (Tenor)

 

In addition, there are other featured characters that have solos. The female
ensemble will consist of a mix of Altos, Mezzos and High Sopranos.
