Clifton Park: Move over, reality TV. this is reality theatre! And it is
no "idol" matter!!!
Not So Common Players announces auditions for National Icon on Monday,
August 14th and Tuesday, August 15th 7-10 pm at the Locust Lane
Clubhouse, Locust Lane, Clifton Park. Performance dates are: October
27th, 28th, 29th and November 3rd, 4th and 5th.

The Not So Common Players proudly presents another original work by
local playwright Marty Egan (author of previous NSCP original premieres:
The Queen of Hearts and Twenty-Seven Million). The NSCP fall 2006
production, National Icon, is a musical spoof of that very popular
reality TV show of a similar name. It marks the directorial debut of
NSCP board member Cindy Nagle with musical direction by Dian Dippold.

National Icon pokes fun at America's obsession with celebrity,
specifically with those "star-making" TV shows. The play weaves an
hilarious tale of unbridled greed, ambition and backstage intrigue -
complete with double-crossing judges, sneaky crew members and cutthroat
contestants of questionable talent, with a wise guy or two thrown in for
good measure. Along the way, there's plenty of great music to be heard
from "honest" contestants!

Prepare a song for auditions you would like to sing in the show if you
were an "honest" contestant. Accompanist. provided.

National Icon cast breakdown:

BUDDY, 30-50: One of 3 judges. The man you love to hate: snide, cruel,
cowardly.

FELICIA, 30-40: One of 3 judges. Dancer at the end of her career. Good
hearted, but can be sarcastic when needed.

MURRAY, 40-60: One of 3 judges. Comic past the end of his career. Sharp
wit, has been around the block.

LARRY, 35-45: Emcee type, smarmy, phony charm.

SID, any age: Stage manager, "go-fer" type, put-upon, fussy.

TRIXIE, 20-30: Beautiful young woman, really awful singing required.

CAPS, 30-40+ male: Imposing gangster, strong singing voice required.

ZELDA, 30-40+: Attractive but tough business woman, talent agent.
