The Nature and Purpose of the Universe is a one act play by Christopher
Durang.

We have currently cast the show but have lost a cast member due to
unforeseen conflicts

.

I am currently looking for one male actor to play the eccentric, tiara
wearing pope. Any age is fine.

This is a fun eccentric character role and a great opportunity to break into
the RPI Players wonderful community.

Production dates are February 9,10,16, and 17th at 8 and February 11th at 2
at the RPI Playhouse.

This play is part of the RPI Players Evening of Performance, a grouping of
one act plays and will be presented alongside

The Mystery at Twicknam Vicarage by David Ives

And

The Line That's Picked Up 1000 Babes (and how it can work for you!) by Eric
Berlin

Rehearsals start immediately and are on Monday's from 8-10 Tuesdays from
9-11 and Friday's from 4 or 5 to 7.

In addition we may have a Saturday rehearsal or 2. Please do come and
audition even if you cannot make one of the rehearsals days (notably Friday)
as we can work around your schedule. All rehearsals will take place on RPI's
campus in Troy, NY.

Auditions are this Friday 1/19 from 7-9 at the RPI Playhouse on 15th street
in Troy, NY and on Saturday 1/20 by appointment. All actors will be given
cold readings from the script. A prepared monologue may used but is not
required.

For any questions or to schedule a Saturday Audition appointment please
contact Bob Fishel, the director at fisher at rpi.edu

Eleanor Mann is a miserably unhappy housewife in New Jersey. Her three sons
are disgraces, her religious fanatic husband beats her, and her vacuum
cleaner doesn't work. In a dark comedy that pays homage to the Book of Job
in the Bible, Ronald and Eleanor are two angels sent down by God to drive
poor Eleanor to distraction. Elaine keeps showing up as various neighbors,
school officials and a nasty census taker to berate and yell at Eleanor.
Ronald appears as a suave Fuller Brush Man, promising to run away with
Eleanor and save her from all of this. Along the way, the Pope is kidnapped
and accidentally killed, the Mann family flees to Iceland before the Fuller
Brush Man shows up; and poor Eleanor falls into deep despair, when in
Iceland she faces one final overwhelming disappointment that pushes her over
the edge.

Thanks,
