Auditions for Stage Door, will take place on Tuesday, November 6 and
Thursday, November 8 at the Playhouse, 12 S. Church St., Schenectady, NY 12305.
Like their previous collaboration, The Royal Family, George S. Kaufman and
Edna Ferber's Broadway play Stage Door is a salute to the theatre, and to
the ambitions, glories, and heartbreaks of the profession.
The play is set entirely in post-Depression 1930s New York City at the
Footlights Club in the West '50s, a boarding house for aspiring actresses. Much of
Stage Door offers anti-Hollywood sentiment, with the film capital viewed as
the place where people go to betray their talent, and also where
less-than-gifted actresses sometimes make it big.
AVAILABLE ROLES:
The Girls – All the girls are residents of the Footlights Club in NYC and
are in their early 20s unless otherwise noted.
Olga Brandt - Russian, dark, intense, passionate and sultry
Bernice Niemeyer - NOT an ingénue – an asset in her opinion.
Susan Paige - A young student at an acting school.
“Big” Mary Harper – Working as an actress – on the perferifery.
“Little” Mary McCune - In the same boat as her friend with the same name.
Madeline Vauclain - The languid beauty and knows how to play it.
Ann Braddock - Sensible girl with the ambition.
Bobby Melrose – Soft Southern Belle, fluffy, feminine.
Judith Canfield - Hard cracking, a little older, wise, very dry and sly.
Kaye Hamilton - The newbie – fragile, wispy and naïve.
Pat Devine - A nightclub dancer with a sense of reality.
Kendall Adams - …of the Boston Adams’ … and all that goes with it.
Linda Shaw - Likes to act, might like the company of men better.
Jean Maitland - Beautiful girl in her 20’s. A better actress off than on.
Opportunist. Charming.
Louise Mitchell - She’s getting married and moving to Appleton, but she’ll
be back.
Terry Randall - The energetic and vivid personality and face of a born
actress.
Tony Gillette - A newbie.
Ellen Fenwick - Another newbie.
The Staff -
Mrs. Orcutt - (45-65) the house matron. Former actress (a bit of
affectation) loves her current job as advisor to her girls. Business-like at times.

Frank -(35) the houseman, baggage carrier and Mattie’s husband.
The Men -
Sam Hastings - (20s) Bobby’s boyfriend. Texan, not really comfortable in
the NYC scene.

Susan’s date.
Stage Door will be directed by Joseph Fava. Production dates are January
25-27 and January 30—February 3, 2008. Volunteers are needed to help build the
set and work backstage. For more information, contact the director at
