Classic Theater Guild, an all volunteer 501(c)(3) non-profit community theater is holding its Second Annual Helderberg Theater Festival on July 24-August 3. Part of the Festival will include the Director's Showcase/New Play Festival which includes performances on July 24, 30 and August 1, of three short, original plays written and directed by Capital District talent.

Auditions for the Director's Showcase/New Play Festival will be held: May 19 at the Wyman Osterhout Community Center, Rt. 85, Voorheesville, NY, and May 20 at Zuzu's Cafe, 299 Hamilton Street, Albany, NY; 6:30pm sign in, 7-9pm auditions.

The following are actor descriptions for the three plays.
  ***
  "Sure Thing" and "The Philadelphia":

Looking for 1 or 2 women and 2 men to cast in two original plays; 20s-30s for comic contemporary roles.

"Sure Thing" is a play where a man and a woman meet
randomly, and all the possible permutations of how not
to meet people are played out with the help of a bell
to try to get the couple together. 1 woman. (The
male role is precast.)

"The Philadelphia" portrays a fellow who finds himself
inside a Philadelphia--nothing he does goes right, and
it's like he doesn't speak the same language as anyone
else. 2 men, 1 woman--leaning toward casting the same
woman as in "Sure Thing."

  ***
"AUTHORS" is about three authors (Samuel, 18th c. poet; Amelia, 19th c.
novelist; Daniel, contemporary playwright) who are all struggling with
their own writing difficulties and personal problems. Daniel, who had a
one-hit success, can't escape his late; Amelia is struggling with the conventions of her time, and, fun-loving Samuel is avoiding all responsibility in his life.

The authors are on stage the entire time, each in their own "world". They can communicate to one another OR each can communicate with his/her "real life"
wife/mother/girlfriend, but NOT both at the same time.

  Character list:

Samuel: 30, (18th c. poet)--**CAST**
Constance: his gal, also about 30

Amelia: 30, 19th c. novelist
Mrs. Furlough: 50s-60s (her mother)

Daniel: 30, contemporary playwright
Melissa: 30, his wife (teacher)
