[Capdist-auditions] "Oliver!" auditions

The Colonial Little Theatre in Johnstown will hold
auditions for a summer production of "Oliver!" Sunday,
May 18 and Monday, May 19 at 5:00 p.m.  The production
will be directed by Cynthia Fiorenza.

For the audition:
1) Prepare a song (not necessarily from the show)
2) Cold reading from the script
3) Be prepared to demonstrate the ability to perform
simple dance steps.
 
Characters:
Oliver Twist/9-13 (boy soprano) - A remarkably pious,
innocent charming workhouse boy.
 
Fagin/40+(Baritone) - A conniving career
criminal..training homeless children to pick pockets
for him in return for shelter.  His charm hides a cold
heart.
 
Nancy/20-30 (Alto) - An abused career thief; former
child pickpocket, but noble and likeable
 
The Artful Dodger/12-15 (boy soprano) - The cleverest
and most charming of Fagin's pickpockets.  Talks and
dresses like a grown man although he is undersized.
 
Mr. Bumble/40+ (Baritone) - pompous; preaches
Christian morality, but behaves without compassion
toward the paupers under his care
 
Mrs. Corney/40+ (Soprano) - The matron of the
workhouse.  A hypocritical, callous, domineering and
demanding widow
 
Bill Sykes/30-50 (Baritone) - A brutal, menacing
professional burglar brought up in Fagin's gang.
 
Bet/13-17 (alto) - One of Fagin's child pickpockets,
idolizes Nancy
 
Mrs. Bedwin/40+ (Soprano) - Mr. Brownlow's
kindhearted, motherly housekeeper
 
Mr. Sowerberry/30+ (Baritone) - The undertaker to whom
Oliver is apprenticed.
 
Mrs. Sowerberry/30+ (soprano) - Mean, judgmental,
henpecks her husband
 
Charlotte Sowerberry/13-17 - The Sowerberry's daughter
 
Noah Claypole/13-17 - A charity boy and Mr.
Sowerberry's apprentice; a bully
 
Mr. Brownlow/40+ - A well-off, compassionate,
sensible, gentleman who turns out to be Oliver's
grandfather
 
Street Vendors - various ages
Strawberry Seller (soprano) - any age
Rose Seller (soprano) - any age
Milk Maid (Mezzo/Alto) - any age
Knife Grinder (Baritone/Bass) - any age
Long Song Seller (Baritone) - any age
Dr. Grimwig - 30+
Charles Bates -9-13
Old Sally - 30+
Old Lady - 30+
policemen - any age
