For FALLING: A WAKE, please prepare a short, contemporary monologue.
For Florence in SOUVENIR, please prepare a brief monologue. In addition,
please prepare two contrasting classical selections to sing: one
off-key, one with proper intonation. Bring sheet music; an accompanist
will be provided.
For Cosme in SOUVENIR, please prepare a brief monologue. In addition,
please prepare two pieces of music to play on the piano: a
classical/opera piece and a "cabaret" jazz piece (Gershwin, etc.)
All: Please bring a picture and resume, stapled together.
SOUVENIR A Fantasia On The Life Of Florence Foster Jenkins, by Stephen
Temperley. Director: Marc Geller
1st rehearsal: July 7, 2008. Runs July 30 - August 17.
Cosme McMoon: Man, late 50s at the time of the play; there are numerous
flashbacks to 20 years earlier. Former accompanist to Florence Foster
Jenkins. Dapper. Has been the resident pianist at an elegant supper club
in Greenwich Village for some years. His audience comes to be
entertained as much by his abrasive sides as by his music. Seeking a
strong actor who is comfortable with accompanying at the piano.
Florence Foster Jenkins: 45 - 65. Wealthy society woman who, though she
believes herself to be a great soprano, has no voice and is incapable of
singing two notes in tune. Her belief in her talent, however, and her
dedication to music and the art of singing is absolute. She behaves at
all times as if she is a major vocal artist. There must be no hint of
mockery. Seeking a confident and accomplished actress who can sing in
the coloratura soprano range and has experience with classical music styles.
FALLING: A WAKE by Gary Kirkham. Director: Laura Margolis.
1st rehearsal: August 18, 2008. Runs September 10 - 28.
New comedy. USA premiere. Harold and Elsie, a retired couple, wisecrack
at each other with long-married familiarity. Very much still in love,
yet they have a long-unsolved incident in their lives that they still
have to come to peace with. A play of secrets, humor and discovery.
Elsie: Woman, 50s - early 60s. Retired. Former high school teacher.
Married to Harold. Warm, funny, wisecracking, knows Harold well. Still
looking for answers.
Harold: Man, 50s - early 60s. Former Math professor. Married to Elsie.
A little bit of a curmudgeon, but warm, funny, wisecracking and knows
Elsie like the back of his hand. Wants to please her. Wants to leave the
past alone.
Stageworks is also casting the non-AEA role of a Young Man who is around
25. Please contact us for information.
Theatre's statement: "Roles in the season are open to Non-Traditional
