Auditions are scheduled for Schenectady Light
Opera's(SLOC's) October, 2008 production of
"Thoroughly Modern Millie"!!  

This 2002 Tony Award winning musical comedy(Best
Musical)tells the story of a small town girl, Millie
Dillmount, who comes to NYC to marry for money instead
of love - a thoroughly modern aim in 1922
when women were just entering the work force. Millie
soon begins to take to delight the flapper lifestyle,
but problems arise when she checks into a hotel owned
by the leader of a white slavery ring in China.

          Principal Roles Available(vocal range):
 
*Millie Dillmount[age 17-25]: small town girl
hoping to marry rich; vivacious & vibrant(Mezzo)
 
*Jimmy Smith[age 16-25]:  "free & easy" young
city-slicker, in love with Millie, pretends to be
poor(Tenor)

*Mr Trevor Graydon[age 27-40]: Millie's boss & the
object of her affection; rich, debonair, &
vain(Baritone)
 
*Miss Dorothy Brown[age 20-30]: Millie's friend &
roomate; old-fashioned, prim & proper, slightly
ditzy(Soprano)

*Mrs Meers[age 30+]: sinister former actress &
landlady, feigning Asian Heritage; diabolical &
bitter(Belter)

*Ching Ho and Bun Foo[ages 16-30]: inept Chinese
henchmen working for Mrs. Meers

*Muzzy Van Hossmere[age 30+]: rich & glamorous
nightclub singer(Alto)
 
*Miss Flannery[age 30+]: bossy, uptight office
manager at Millie's office
 
 
             **CHORUS/ENSEMBLE(various ages)**
                    (10 Men/10 Women)
 
  All must have Tap & Jazz experience & sing in a
  variety of roles.
 
 
  All must prepare both a 16 bar song & comedic
  monologue. Set readings from the show will follow.
  You might be asked to sing a song from the show.
 
  Dance auditions will be on Thursday, June 5th.
