REMINDER:
Theater Voices will present THE COCKTAIL HOUR by A.R. Gurney, its
final staged reading production of the 2007-2008 season, on the
weekend of May 30-June 1.
Performances of THE COCKTAIL HOUR will be given at Steamer No. 10
Theatre, 500 Western Avenue in Albany, on Friday, May 30 at 8:00 PM;
Saturday, May 31 at 3:00PM and 8:00 PM; and Sunday, June 1 at 3:00
PM. Admission is free.
In this delightful comedy-drama, a playwright brings home to his
family a new script that brings about a series of recriminations and
revelations about them and the Upper-class WASP life in America that
they represent. Partially modeled on Gurney’s own family, the plays’
erudite dialogue perfectly reflects the mixture of satire, affection,
and sympathy characteristic of Gurney’s work. The results have been
described by critics as “delicious” and “delectable.”
A.R. Gurney is the author of numerous celebrated works, including
LOVE LETTERS, THE DINING ROOM, and THE PERFECT PARTY.
To celebrate its twentieth season anniversary, Theater Voices has
restaged some of its most popular past productions. THE COCKTAIL HOUR
was first performed by the company in 1999. The director of this
production is Judy Spevack, who also directed the company’s original
production of THE COCKTAIL HOUR.
