Reminder!

Theater Voices will hold auditions for a staged reading of “If We Are  
Women”, by Joanna McClelland Glass, directed by Kristen Vanginhoven.

Monday  April 20, 7:00pm- 9:00pm

Tuesday April 21, 7:00pm- 9:00pm

Steamer No. 10 Theatre, 500 Western Avenue, Albany - corner of West  
Lawrence Street.

Please arrive as close to 7pm as possible and be prepared to stay  
until 9pm. (Some actors from Monday evening may be asked to return to  
read on Tuesday.) Actors will be asked to read scenes from the play.



Character breakdown:

Jessica MacMillan Cohen: forty’s, writer, her lover of eight years  
has just died. She is mother to Polly. She is confessional, but  
always in fragile, wistful, slightly humorous way, rather than self- 
pitying. She is wont to express herself in a florid, at times  
melodramatic, manner.



Polly: 18, vibrant personality, in her final year of high school. Had  
plans to attend Yale at the end of the summer. After meeting Charles  
Whitman, her plans change….



Ruth MacMillan: sixties, mother to Jessica, grandmother to Polly.  
Illiterate. She is visiting Connecticut from the Canadian Prairies.  
Her inability to read and write causes her great pain. She is  
immediately likeable, open and unguarded and, as Rachel says in the  
play, ‘without guile’.



Rachel Cohen: sixties, ex mother-in-law of Jessica, grandmother to  
Polly. Well-educated. Her energy is fired by a relentless frustration  
with the world and human behavior. Sharp, witty, stern and acerbic-a  
woman who has had, all of her life, one foot in intellectual endeavor  
and one in the kitchen.
