1-minute dramatic monologue of their choice for auditions (memorized).
Singing parts: actors should bring a hymn to sing a cappella. 

 

Roles:

Scout (11-15) Understudy only. Full of life, thoughtful, bright, tom-boy
with keen powers of observation. Physically active and brave. Independent
thinker.

 

Jen (14-17) Scout’s older brother, her protector. On the cusp of becoming a
young man. All-boy, acts first, thinks later. Impetuous, but we can see the
fine qualities of his father in his son, who believes in justice through
action.

 

Dill (10-14) Book-smart, eager to be a part of “the gang,” which includes
Scout and Dill. Extremely bright and emotionally empathetic. Identifies with
the underdog. Actor needs to be small in stature and appear younger than 13,
but mature for his years.

 

SCOUT, JEM AND DILL ROLES WILL BE DOUBLE-CAST: 1 Actor will serve as
understudy and will play young person in the town. Understudies will perform
Scout, Jem and Dill for at least 2 student matinees and another select
regular performance.

 

OTHER YOUNG ACTOR ROLES:

(4) Male and female actors – (12-18) to play young people in the town
(appear in several scenes.)

 

GOSPEL CHORUS ROLES:

(3) Singer/Actors- (14-18) African American singer/actors to play young
people in town/court and perform in Gospel Chorus.

 

Rehearsals start: February 2, 2010

Young actors should plan being at rehearsals from 2:30-8pm, Tuesday-Friday
and Saturday and Sunday. Monday is the official day off.

Tech week* (longer rehearsals): Thursday, 2/19, 2/20, 2/21, Mon off, Tuesday
2/23, 2/24.

First preview performance: Tuesday, 2/25/2010

Performances: Evenings, Tuesday through Sunday 2/25-3/28

Matinee performances: 3/4, 3/10, 3/12, 3/16, 3/17, 3/19, 3/23, 3/24, 3/25,
and 3/26.

 

All young actors need to have special permission to miss school from parents
and school administrators. All actors are expected to keep up their grades
and homework while being a part of the company. Some tutoring will be
available. Each actor will receive a $250 stipend.
