Seeking:
Males (AEA)
Bob Ewell: (40s-50s)uneducated, scrappy and devious. He has all the attributes of his lack of educationand poverty. Father of too manychildren, he seeks refuge in blaming others for his plight at any cost.

Non-AEA:
Walter Cunningham: (30s-40s) hard-working tenant farmer. Can bewon over to take out his pent up aggression that comes from leading a life ofpoverty. Well-meaning but can beinfluenced toward his darker nature. Represents the common man in this town.

Nathan/Boo Radley: (40s) Atticus’ neighbor, who appears sinister to children, but isactually the lifelong caretaker of his brother, Boo. Rail thin, he has lived a quiet life, withonly the companionship of his brother, hoping to hide from the limelight causedby his family’s trouble. (One actor willplay both Nathan and Boo.)

Judge Taylor: (60s)Although sensible, Judge Tayloris a product of the Southern justice of his time. He doesn’t like to rock the boat. Hopes for the best and would like Atticus totake another way out of the Tom Robinson mess. Likable, can be tough, and because he has seen it all, understands theimportance of being a savvy politician on the bench.

(2) Citizens of the Town, Jury Members – (30-50s) These arethe unnamed members of the town that convict Tom Robinson. They are members of the mob that try to lynchRobinson and also serve as jury members.

Females (AEA)
Jean-Louise – The older Scout – and alter ego of Harper Lee--who serves as the narrator of this particular summer in which a young girlleft childhood behind. Literate, goodwith Harper Lee’s prose. Intellectual. Not at allconcerned with her appearance; the ultimate observer.

Non-AEA
Helen Robinson (30s) Wife of Tom Robinson who has to bearhis suffering and fate in public. Hard-working and limited by Southern social code. She knows her place.Emotionally strong. Would like thisactress to be able to sing (gospel music without accompaniment).

Mayella Ewell (20s) A nubile teenager who lives in fear ofpunishment at the hands of her father. She has the same prejudices as her uneducated father, but yearns forkindness. Lonely and trapped in the same cycle of poverty that breeds fear andhatred.

Miss Stephanie (40s-50s) The town busy-body. Nothing escapes Miss Stephanie’s eyes andears – and no facts ever get in the way of her interpretations. Easily swayed to popular opinion, she careswhat everyone thinks and goes with the prevailing tide of the times. The past and the status quo are best.

Miss Dubose: (60s)Long retired from a useful life, she now spends her days taunting those whotread outside the boundaries of expected behavior. This is a defense for a lonely life, a desireto be useful and the knowledge that her days are numbered.

(2) Citizens of the Town, Jury Members (30s-60s) These womenare the unnamed members of the town that convicts Tom Robinson and support thestatus quo.
