3 Dollar Bill Productions is casting three staged readings on SATURDAY, JANUARY 23rd, from 1PM - 4PM.

Auditions will be held on the SUNY Albany campus, in the Arena Theater in the PAC (Performing Arts Center). Signs will be posted to help you find the space.

Two of the three plays are written by SUNY Albany alum Tim O'Leary,
currently an actor/writer/director living in NYC. The third is by local
playwright Michael Meade.

The first reading will be performed on Feburary 20th, the second on
March 20th, and the third on April 24th. All plays have the possibility
of an additional reading on the SUNY campus around the same time.

Seeking:

MEN AND WOMEN for a variety of roles.  Age range: late teens to 50's.

Sides will be presented at the auditions, and you will be given time to
rehearse. It is not necessary to have anything prepared.  Please bring
a photo of yourself with you. It doesn't have to be anything fancy -- just so we'll remember you!

NOTE: The previous collaboration between playwright Tim O'Leary and 3 Dollar Bill Productions resulted in his play, Pieces on the Board, being performed in a professional Equity production in New York as part of the NY International Fringe Festival, and starring Josh Berresford of Dante's Cove. (In other words, getting cast in the readings could open doors to a part in the future.)

About the plays:

Play #1:

Nightmare World: A Sci-fi Action-Adventure Romantic Comedy

by Tim O'Leary

In Nightmare World,
we're taken into an alternate United States where the government, led
by a shadowy figure named Cleopatra, has clamped down on civil rights
and criminalized homosexuality. Amidst the totalitarian regime, a
ragtag band of freedom fighters has gone underground and begun fighting
back. Brought into this fold is a young man who has the potential to
change the world. But can he do it before the government destroys
everything (and everyone) he loves? Warriors, prophecies, and magical
quests abound in this piece of speculative fiction that examines very
real problems through a fantastical lens.

Play #2:

Shadows of Springfield
by Michael Meade

A look at the early years of Abraham Lincoln in
rural Illinois and his relationship with his close friend Joshua Speed.
In Joshua's company, the painfully shy Young Abraham finds
acceptance and understanding, as well as a release for his pent-up
romantic longings. But the freedom they experience in a rough frontier
society is threatened as the constraints of civilization and adult
responsibilities close in around them. The play examines not only the
controversial relationship between Lincoln and Speed, but the inner
struggles and external pressures that sent a young man on the path to
greatness.

Play #3:

The Redemption of Aphrodite

by Tim O'Leary

Ancient Greece: 3,000 BC. A young woman wanders to Thebes and stumbles upon a royal family in turmoil as two brothers vie for the throne of the kingdom. She is taken in and soon falls in love with the princess Antigone, who is worried for the future of her family. All of this is observed by the gods Apollo and Aphrodite, who have
their own stakes in the goings-on in the kingdom. Can true love be enough to conquer the greed and thirst for power that affects not only mortals, but gods, as well?

The Redemption of Aphrodite is part of a trilogy of plays, the first of which, The Wrath of Aphrodite, had its premiere at GayFest NYC in May of 2008, with an Equity cast that included Ryan Serhant of Guiding Light.
