Curtain Call Theatre

will hold auditions for John C. Picardi’s “The Sweepers” directed by Phil
Rice at

6:30 on Monday, October 25 and Tuesday, October 26

at the theater, 210 Old Loudon Road, Latham, NY.

Production dates are January 14 through February 12. Rehearsals will start
in early December.

Looking for three women in their forties, one woman in her twenties and one
man in his twenties.

The play is set in Boston’s Italian neighborhood, the North End, in 1945,
where three women, friends since girlhood, struggle with various fears and
crises brought on by the war. Bright, bustling Mary DeGrazia has a husband
and son fighting in the Pacific. Appropriately named Dotty Larnino has a
shellshocked husband in the nearby VA hospital and a son overseas. Sultry,
willful Bella Cichinelli doesn't bear the same burden of uncertainty, at
least on the surface.

“ . . . plenty of laughs along with a gut-wrenching emotional wallop.”

Character breakdown:

Bella Cichinelli (F) – 40s – sexy, stylish Italian –American

Mary DeGrazia (F) – 40’s – stoic, matronly but stylish Italian –American,
always in control

Dotty Larnino (F) – 40’s – jolly Italian –American with a positive manner
and a curious naivety

Karen Foletti (F) – mid-20s – Sonny’s bride-to-be, from an upper middle
class Italian –American family, very much the lady

Sonny McCarthy-Cichinelli (M) – mid-20s - Bella’s son, handsome,
well-educated attorney
