Would you like to participate in internationally renowned actor training right in the heart of the Berkshires?

For over 30 years, Shakespeare & Company's Center for Actor Training has asked the questions that underlie all of Shakespeare's theatre: What does it mean to be alive? How should we act? What must I do? The training focuses on heightening actors' abilities to engage, explore and express fearlessly, and to bring language, character and the physical instrument together in such a way as to help actors "to hold, as 'twere, the mirror up to nature."

The Center for Actor Training has a number of workshops and programs coming soon to the beautiful Shakespeare & Company campus in Lenox, MA (just one hour southeast of Albany):

First Folio (August 21-25): What have the past 400 years of editing and scholarship done to the way Shakespeare is read and performed today? Have you ever thought that the original texts might be more useful to the working actor than all the modern editions put together? Dennis Krausnick, Shakespeare & Company's Director of Training, leads this workshop in an exploration of Shakespeare's earliest texts and their value to actors today. Participants will prepare two speeches from Romeo & Juliet.

Shakespeare and Gender (August 26-28): Every participant will arrive with a speech by one male character and one female character and work on them from different points of view as we discuss how each of them feels, not only in the psyche but also in the body. Take a weekend with Shakespeare & Company's Founding Artistic Director, Tina Packer, and discover Shakespeare's women: who they are, what they do and why-and how they survive and thrive.

***Special Offer! Come for First Folio and stay through Shakespeare & Gender for a special price! Contact us for details.

The Conservatory Program (September 12 - December 17): The Conservatory at Shakespeare & Company is dedicated to training a new generation of classical actors in the skills required to master Shakespeare performance. By integrating the full range of disciplines-from clown and fight to rhetoric and dance-in a rigorous thirteen-week, college-accredited program, the Conservatory prepares young actors to establish themselves and learn how to succeed as professional actors.

Please note that on-site housing with kitchen access is included in the tuition for these programs.

Enrollment in these programs is limited, so please apply soon!
