THEATER VOICES will hold auditions for a staged reading of “ Defiance”, by
John Patrick Shanley, directed by Yvonne Perry.
*Location*
Steamer No. 10 Theatre, 500 Western Avenue, Albany - corner of West
Lawrence Street.
*Times*
Sunday Sunday August 28, 2011 7-9pm
Monday August 29, 2011 7-8pm – Call Backs 8-9pm
Please arrive as close to start time as possible and be prepared to stay
until the end of auditions. Actors will be asked to read scenes from the
play.
*Needed:* 1 woman – early forties
5 men-early twenties to mid forties,
including 1 African American man late twenties
PLACE: Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Spring 1971.
Cast Breakdown:
Lt. Col. Morgan Littlefield: Male. Mid-forties to Early fifties. An
officer in the Marines, from Maryland. Has a fair mind and a moral
compass that has rarely failed him. Not a particularly religious man. Tough,
intelligent, well educated, private. . Respectful of his wife, and also of
the men who serve under him. Or is he?
Margaret Littlefield: In her early forties. Likes to be called Meg.
Attractive. From a good Florida family. She loves her husband and is
resigned to the life of a military wife. Makes the best of her surroundings
and the people in it.
Captain Lee King: African American male, age 27. Grew up in DC. Recently
returned from two tours in Vietnam, he now serves as a judge advocate in
military court. An astute listener.
Chaplain White: Late twenties to mid-thirties. A Lutheran minister
recently assigned to the military base. Navy. From Alabama. A little too
cocksure.
Gunney Sergeant: Forceful. Witty. Looks older than he really is, which is
probably late-twenties.
Private First Class Evan Davis: A poor, white southern man, twenty years
old. He has had a rough life. He is quietly distraught.
Production dates: October 14-16, 2011 (Fri. – Sun.)
