SCHENECTADY CIVIC PLAYERS -- Open auditions for Christopher Hampton's "Les Liaisons Dangereuses," directed by Richard Michael Roe, at Schenectady Civic Playhouse, 12 So. Church St., Schenectady. Christopher Hampton's searing story of sexual deceit and betrayal is set in the glittering world of Parisian aristocracy where former lovers, the Marquise de Merteuil and the Vicomte de Vairmont lay a bet, to see who can pull off the greater act of seduction.  Reputations are put at risk and lives destroyed, as neither of these amoral aristocrats is concerned with the consequences of their cynical game - until, that is, love gets in the way.   

 

Cast of Characters  
 Major Domo -  head servant of Merteuil's household. 40's  

Marquise de Merteuil - intelligent, regal, imperious, cunning. A sensualist. Unfaltering in her resolve. (35-45)

Volanges - A wealthy woman, slightly staid and reserved. (35-45)

Cecile Volanges - Fresh from the convent. Curious, romantic and easily led. (16 -actress must be older)*

Valmont - seducer, manipulator.a famous libertine and ex lover of Merteuil. (35 - 45)*

Azolan - faithful servant to Valmont. (35-40)*

Rosemunde - Valmont's aunt - a "grande dame" from a lovelier time. (55-70)

Tourvel - a young virtuous woman with great hidden passion. ( 22-27)*

Emilie - a courtesan of some renown. (35 -40)*

Danceny - a young man, in love with Cecile but ultimately Merteuil's pawn (20 -25)*

Household servants - 2 males, one female.
