The Galway Players Announce
Auditions for “My SisterEileen”
Sunday, January 23, 2010 – 1:00p.m.
Galway High School Auditorium –Rt. 147
 
    “My Sister Eileen” is the story of two Ohio sisters who in the late 1930’s move to New York City to starttheir careers ~ Ruth in journalism and Eileen in theater.  They move into a “bargain” basement apartmentin the Village and manage to remain “ladies” in the face of the perils of big cityliving.  The story of Ruth and Eileen andtheir comical new acquaintances, was made into two movies, a TV movie and themusical play, “Wonderful Town”.
       If you have wanted to be on the stagebut were unsure how to start, this is the production for you!  This year we are focusing on developing newactors and actresses to appear on our stage. We will provide newcomers with thebasic nuances of live theater, and assist those with experience with techniquesto improve delivery to the audience. Joining the cast of Galway Players is alsoabout having fun and meeting new friends. You are guaranteed to do both if you choose to be in “My Sister Eileen.”
 
Ages 17 and up are guaranteed parts ~ there are alimited number of small parts for younger children and “tweens.”
 
*Rehearsals only on Sunday afternoons, 1 to 6 p.m.*
*May have extra rehearsal last week before show *

Eileen – appears20 – 33; has ability to attract the male persuasion; naïve; wanna be actress
Ruth – appears 23– 35: wanna be writer; has typewriter; although attractive, feels that shepales in the shine of Eileen’s glow; mature and business like with cuttinghumor
Appopolous – male– appears 40 to 70; perhaps a bit ethnic in affect (Greek/slav?); a personquite interested in money; artist
Jenson: appear 30 to 70 – maintenance man – (may double as Russian)
Wreck: appear 20to 30 – live in boyfriend who at first pretends to be husband; football player;“engaged” to Helen Wade; winds up living with Eileen and Ruth when girlfriend’smom comes visiting
Helen Wade:appears 18 to 30  - Girl living in sinwith fiancée; very much in love with the Wreck; trusts the girls to be “likesisters” to the Wreck.
Lonigan – appears 40 to 75 – the Policeman!
Fletcher –appears 30 to 75 – looking for “Violet” – the last tenant – was sent by Martyover at the airport – Eileen asks Ruth to make Fletcher “go’way
Frank Lippencott-    appears 25 to 35; nerdy; an Eileensuitor; drug store manager
Chic Clark – appears 35 to65; a bit greasy and/or desperate; reporter who fancies himself a suitor forEileen
Violet Shelton – appearsover 40  - a luscious women woman with agood figure who makes her entrance being carried in by the Russion Cossack –was the prior tenant in the apartment 
Mrs. Wade –Helen’s mother; appears 40 to ??? – great scene with the Wreck who is ironingwhile swigging gin in the girls’ apartment 
 
Six (between 4 and 8)– Brazilian Admirals – young navy men with dark complexions; crisp whitenaval uniforms and navel hats with moustaches – both actors and actresseswelcome – will dance, sing a bit; and form a Conga line with Eileen while Ruthtries to rid them from the apartment. All women but Eileen, Ruth and Violet are possible doublers here
 
Brazilian consul– appears between 30 and ???  (one scene)
Bob Baker –appears 30 to 45 - assistant editor, another suitor for Eileen (and also forRuth)
Mr. Sherwood –the girl’s father – (appears 40 to 65)
Prospective Tenant– only a few lines – but some good laugh lines
Unlimited passer bys for the window street scene
Limited number of children/tweeners for street urchins/otherpasser-bys
 
SONG AND DANCE OPPORTUNITY
We are also offering the opportunity for production members(or perhaps small groups thereof) to perform a number from the 1930’s (or early40’s.  Interested individuals wouldparticipate in the production of the number (finding material; finding sheetmusic and figuring out musical accompaniment). The production team will assist as much as is possible. Numbers will beperformed prior to curtain as well as after curtain and will be appropriatelyplaced to preserve the flow of the play.
