Call for Submissions for Black Women in Words, History & Art

For Immediate Release
Women'sWork: Arts at the Women's Building and Soul Rebel Performance
Troupe are looking for work by black women performance and visual
artists (any medium; any theme) to submit art for the one-night only
April 1, 2011 show entitled: "Black Women in Words, History & Art."
The event will spotlight the work of black women artists, both visual
and performing, and is a celebration of black history and women's
history.
Performance Guidelines:
Can be a monologue, scene, essay, or poem.
Must be no longer than five minutes in length.
Must be by or about women of color.
To be considered for participation, performance selections should be
emailed to jeremyward at jeremyward.info by February 1, 2011 along with
the performer(s) name and contact information. A confirmation email
will be sent shortly to the performer(s).
An introductory meeting will be held mid-February to provide further
information.
A one-time rehearsal will be set up closer to the performance date.
Directional assistance with the piece will be available on an as
needed basis.

Visual Art Guidelines:
Two-dimensional or three-dimensional work will be considered for
submission, as well as multi-media.
Must be by women of color.
All work must be hang ready or it will NOT be considered.
Email low resolution jpegs to arts at thewomensbuilding.org by Thursday
March 3;
notification of acceptance will be made by Thursday March 10; Accepted
work must be dropped off at the Women's Building by Thursday March 17th
Show Opens Friday April 1st as part of First Friday, Albany
Work must be picked up by Friday April 8th from the Women's
Building, 373 Central Ave, Albany, NY 12206. (If not local to Albany
and work is to be shipped to and from Albany, artist is responsible
for all insurance and shipping costs.)

Women's Work is a program of the Women's Building, Inc. Its mission is
to promote and affirm the creative talents and technical abilities of
women in the arts. The underlying goal is to encourage the growth,
knowledge, and empowerment of women in all aspects of their lives by
offering art workshops, exhibits, and cultural events.
Women's Work: Arts At The Women's Building endeavors to display the
diversity of the women's community in respect to race, age, physical
ability, and sexual orientation and works to reflect this diversity in
all levels of program participation.
Soul Rebel Performance Troupe was founded in 2009 to foster better
cross-cultural understanding through the performing arts.
