The Last Night of Ballyhoo is a comedy set in Atlanta in 1939. Hitler is rising to to power and Gone With The Wind is set to premiere. The Freitag family, a German-Jewish family is preparing for Ballyhoo, an upper class cotillion, which is the social event of the holiday season. As preparations are being made for this lavish event, an unexpected visitor arrives to cause the Freitag family to re-examine their Jewish beliefs and the identities that they have come to accept as their own.
Adolf Freitag
a business man, late 40s. adolf is is loving, kind, quiet soul. he is the only male figure in a household filled with women of outspoken, quirky personalities
Boo Levy
adolf's sister, a few years older. Boo is unstoppable force. she voices her opinions with little regard as to their effect on others. her main objective is to have her daughter Lala attend ballyhoo and meet a future husband.
Lala Levy
Boo's daughter, 20s. Lala is a dreamer, somewhat immature for her age and just as opinionated as her mother. she is obsessed with the premiere of Gone With the Wind, as she sees herself as a future novelist. Ballyhoo is an event in which sees herself on premiere seeking to find her Rhett Butler.
Reba Freitag
adolf's sister, middle 40s. although reba often appears oblivious to the family's on-goings, reba is the voice of reason and truth. her insights as to what is really going on is honest and objective. she is colorful and warm, just like the off beat sweaters she loves to knit.
Sunny Freitag
Reba's daughter, 20s. Sunny is well educated, but struggles with understanding and accepting her jewish heritage. she is pretty and sharp and is many of the things Lala is not.
Joe Farkas
adolf's business assistant, 20s. Joe is the unexpected visitor and the outside voice that causes the Frietag household to re-examine its jewish identity. Joe is the intellectual match for Sunny.
Peachy Weil
a visitor from Lake Charles, 20s. With a name like Peachy, the fun begins. this well to do young man from a socially acceptable family, is a possible date for Lala and Ballyhoo.
will he or won't he invite her to go? Peachy is full of surprises with his outspoken, silly prankster personality.
