CHARACTERS:

ANNABEL GLICK (age: 25-35)
A representative of the Universal Dog Home of Brooklyn. Annabel is a very dedicated young woman with a natural bent for causes, particularly canine ones. She is very businesslike and humorless. Her stuffiness initially disguises that she really is a pretty woman. Alto.

HARRY WITHERSPOON (age: 25-35)
A shy, sweet-natured and insecure young Englishman, working as an underpaid shoe salesman in a dreary London suburb. Lonely, and beset by dogs and prying neighbors in his boardinghouse, Harry knows that life is passing him by, but feels incapable of making any changes or taking chances. Tenor.

LUIGI GAUDI/ ARAB/TONY HENDON (age: 45+)
A boisterous and gregarious Italian. Luigi is a pivotal character, although his part is relatively small. He wears a beard, and perhaps an eye patch. As Tony Hendon, all disguises come off to reveal he is Rita's love interest. Tenor.

RITA LA PORTA (age: 35+)
A woman with an extremely volatile nature and a severe case of nearsightedness. Rita is passionate, impulsive, jealous, manipulative and very insecure about her looks. Things often get out of control when Rita is present. She is a chain smoker. Alto.

VINCENT (VINNIE) DI RUZZIO (age: 30-40)
Rita La Porta's brother. An optometrist, but not an optimist. A nervous and conservative man, a pillar of the community and a person who would never do anything out of the ordinary, risky or controversial. Vinnie is allergic to smoke. Baritone

DOMINIQUE DEL MONACO (age: 25-35)
French night club singer. Sets her sights for Harry, until she thinks Vinnie has his hands on a fortune. Alto

ENSEMBLE (2-4 men, 2-4 women, not age specific)
These performers double in a variety of parts, including an English landlady & boarders; an English solicitor; travelers on a train; a French waiter; a bellhop; tourists; gamblers; an emcee; a nun, a Texan, etc.
