SCHENECTADY CIVIC PLAYERS -- Open auditions for Tom Stoppard's "The Real Thing," directed by Christopher Foster, at Schenectady Civic Playhouse, 12 So. Church St., Schenectady. Tuesday, March 6 and Thursday, March 8, at 7:30 p.m. Sign-ups begin @ 7:15pm. (Performance dates May 9 thru 13.) Roles for 3 women (17 - 40s) and 4 men (20s to 40s). More information 2cfoster2 at gmail.com or call (518) 451-9237.

The Real Thing is a Tony award winner for Best Play. The play tells the story of a married playwright who blurs the line between reality and his dramas on the stage as his personal life unravels before his very eyes. Deeply moving and bitingly funny, Tom Stoppard's razor sharp drama brilliantly examines the complex nature of love, art and reality.

Auditions will consist of cold readings from the script. The British accents are a must for this show. Please be prepared to try an accent at auditions. Also, be prepared to list any conflicts you might have during the rehearsal period at the auditions. Show dates are May 4-6 and May 9-13, 2012

Characters:

Max (40ish): The lead actor in Henry's new play, House of Cards. More attractive than Henry but not as clever. Max is married to Annie.

Charlotte (35ish): The lead actress in Henry's new play, House of Cards. Very witty and self-assured. Charlotte is married to Henry.

Henry (40ish): A successful London playwright. Brilliant with words. Infinitely less brilliant with emotions. Henry is married to Charlotte and in love with Annie.

Annie (30ish): An actress. Much more comfortable with emotion than words. She is married to Max and in love with Henry.

Debbie (17): Henry and Charlotte's overly mature and world-wise seventeen year old daughter.

Billy (20-something): An actor who meets Annie. Young, brash, charming. Needs to be able to do British and Scottish dialect.

Brodie (20-something): A Scottish soldier and political prisoner. Loud, boorish, and not all that political when it comes right down to it.
