Colonial Little Theatre announces auditions for 
DISNEY’S: THE JUNGLE BOOK KIDS!
 
The jungle is jumpin’ with jazz in this exciting Disney classic! Join Mowgli, Baloo, King Louie and the gang as they swing their way through madcap adventures and thwart the ferocious tiger, Shere Khan. Specially adapted from the beloved film, this musical includes all your favorite Disney tunes, like “The Bare Necessities,” and “I Wan’na Be Like You.” With colorful characters and that toe-tapping jungle rhythm, Disney's THE JUNGLE BOOK KIDS is sure to be a crowd-pleaser for audiences of all ages.
 
Colonial Little Theatre is located at 1 Colonial Court, Johnstown, NY 12095

AUDITIONS:
• Sunday, August 25th
Ages 6 to 10, please arrive ready to begin at 1pm.  Auditions to conclude around 3pm.
Ages 11-15, please arrive ready to begin at 3pm.  Auditions to conclude around 5pm.

PREPARING FOR THE AUDITION:
• If interested in a singing role, please come prepared with a karaoke CD for accompaniment.
• All others will be asked to sing a Nursery Rhyme or Happy Birthday.
•  Those auditioning should come dressed comfortably for a movement audition.
•  Readings will take place from the script. 
•  Theater games will take place in the first group, and possibly with the second group as well.


AUDITION PAPERWORK:
•  Please bring a resume and picture if available.  Otherwise, pictures will be taken at auditions and audition sheets can be completed.  (See attached audition sheet)
•  It is essential to have ALL known conflicts for rehearsals and tech week available at auditions.  Please review all of the dates below.

PERFORMANCE DATES AND TIMES:
Friday, November 22 at 7pm
Saturday, November 23 at 2pm and 7pm
Sunday, November 24 at 2pm
*Call time will be 1.5 hours prior to show time

CHARACTER BREAKDOWN: 


BABY ELEPHANT  The Baby Elephant is generally cast with the smallest or youngest child. There is a solo line in the song as well as marching, so the child should have a sense of music and movement. 
E3 - A3  
BAGHEERA  The role of Bagheera, the panther, should be able to easily portray the physical attributes of a feline. Bagheera should be physically agile and uninhibited with good command of their body. The actor should also possess a natural talent for acting, singing and leading a story. D3 - Bb3  
BALOO  Baloo, the bear, should be cast by someone who is exuberant with a great natural talent for singing and acting. Baloo provides much of the comedic relief in the story, so the actor must possess a natural sense of comedy. Baloo should not be afraid to be wild and crazy and physically uninhibited. The actor should not be self-conscious and should enjoy the spotlight. Baloo's part in "I Wan'na Be Like You" demands a singer with a strong sense of rhythm. C3 - D4  
BEES  The Bees are ensemble parts that will require movement and ability to sing with an ensemble.  
COLONEL HATHI  Colonel Hathi, the elephant, is in charge of the elephant brigade. He is good at giving commands but doesn't really understand what's going on around him, and can be forgetful at times. Colonel Hathi should be played by someone who has rhythm, can sing, and is able to act like a drill sergeant. D3 - A3  
ELEPHANT TROUPE  The Elephant Troupe should be able to march and sing in an ensemble.  There are featured elephants that are character actors with lines.  
JUNGLE  The Jungle Chorus is an ensemble of singers, actors and dancers.  There are opportunities for featured solos and dancing to highlight cast members.  
KAA  Kaa, the snake, supplies threat and danger to Mowgli's journey out of the jungle. Kaa should be cast by someone with flair, good vocal and movement skills, and ability to sing well. D3 - B3  
KING LOUIE  King Louie is King of the Monkeys. The part calls for an actor with strong comedic timing and good singing ability. C3 - C4  
MONKEYS  Monkeys should be strong dancers. There are featured monkeys with lines that require comedic timing. C3 - D4  
MOWGLI  Mowgli is a boy who gets along with everyone and is very likable. He has a joyful and curious nature, and a twinkle in his eye. The part should be cast by someone with a spark that can captivate the audience and is also a bit feisty. This part requires superb acting skills, the ability to sing and move.  C3 - D4  
NARRATORS  The narrators are featured roles that require the ability to act and sing.   
SHANTI  Shanti is the girl who takes Mowgli to the village at the end of the story. She should exude sweetness and kindness and have a natural ability for acting.  
SHANTI'S MOTHER  Shanti's Mother is not seen, and has one line spoken from offstage.    
SHERE KHAN  Shere Khan, the tiger, is King of the Jungle. This is an extremely strong character part that requires a villain-like, commanding presence.  Ability to sing is a plus.  E3 - C4  
VULTURES  There are four featured vultures (Ziggy, Dizzy, Buzzy, Flaps) that require comedic timing and strong singing abilities.  
WINIFRED Winifred is Colonel Hathi’s Wife.  This part should be cast by someone with comedic timing.    
WOLF The wolf has a brief miming role at the start of the show.
