The Schenectady Civic Players announces open auditions for the first
production of its 86th season, Paul Osborn's *MORNING'S AT SEVEN*, Tuesday
and Thursday, July 23 and 25, at The Playhouse, 12 S. Church St., in
Schenectady's Stockade District. Sign-ups begin at 7:15 each evening, with
readings starting at 7:30 PM.

At the play’s center are the long-standing sibling rivalries of four aging
sisters. Three of them-- Cora, Ida and Arry-- have been living next door to
each other for fifty years. Eldest sister Esther lives only a few blocks
away, and we quickly learn that living so close to one another has taken
its toll. The mostly quiet life these women share with their husbands
becomes unhinged when they begin to question what to do with their
remaining years. Family secrets, dizzy spells, and a 40-year-old son still
living at home are just a few of the reasons that add up to an evening of
humorously dysfunctional family life.

This perennially charming portrait of small town America fifty plus years
ago was revived on Broadway in 1980 and in 2002 to critical acclaim.

Roles for 4 men and 5 women include:

*Theodore (Thor) Swanson-60s*-The gruff-spoken but tender-hearted husband
of Cora. He is frequently caught in the middle of conflicts between her and
her sister Arry, who has shared their home since she was a teenager. Thor
is the most rational, perhaps the only rational person in the play

*Cora Swanson-60s*- Cora is resentful of never having had a life alone with
her husband Thor. She wants to spend her remaining years without her sister
Arry in the house.

*Aaronetta (Arry) Gibbs-60s*- She has lived with Cora and Thor her entire
adult life. She is a gossip and a snoop and tends to be high strung.

*Ida Bolton-60s*-Wife of Carl and mother of 40-year-old Homer, still living
at home. She is a little slow to grasp everything.

*Carl Bolton-60s*-Regrets not becoming a dentist and is prone to spells.

He is, to say the least, a little odd

*Homer Bolton-40*-He has been living at home all his life and has been
dating Myrtle Brown for 12 years. He is unable or unwilling to make a
commitment, although, at the opening of the play, he is bringing Myrtle
home to meet his parents.

*Myrtle Brown-39*-She is pleasant, polite, gawky and awkward. After 12
years of dating Homer she is finally going to meet the parents for the
first time. Her arrival causes quite a stir in the family

*Esther (Esty) Crampton-60s*- Like many women of her generation, she has
spent her married life in submission to her arrogant and domineering
husband David. She has a calming influence on her sisters and has an innate
understanding of human and family interaction.

*David Crampton-60s*-He is a retired professor and has an air of
intellectual superiority. He refers to his relatives as morons, but is
capable of compassion and even affection
