Drums Along the Mohawk Outdoor Drama
  
Auditions will be held for Drums Along the Mohawk on Sunday March 24th in the Shaker Meeting House of the Shaker Heritage Society, 25 Meeting House Road, Colonie, New York 12205.
 
There will be four performances of Walter D. Edmond’s classic tale, Drums Along the Mohawk, produced and adapted for the stage by Kyle Jenks and directed by Steven O'Connor.

August Performances
Sat. Aug 3, 2013 5pm 
Sun. Aug 4, 2013 2pm 
Gelston Castle Estate 980 Robinson Road 
Mohawk, NY 13407 
Rehearsals will be conducted from July 7th through July 26th at Tawasetha Park in Guilderland. NY. 
 
Actors will be paid a stipend at the completion of the run. Stipend rates vary with the size of the role performed.
 
Auditions will be by appointment only beginning at 1:00 pm and concluding at 3:00 pm. Please bring recent headshot and resume.

Audition slots will be assigned on a "first contact, first reserve" basis.

Talent will be asked to read from the script for most parts. 
 
Talent auditioning for the asterisked  (*) roles should prepare an acappella  hymn or ballad. 

We will be casting the following roles:
 
NICHOLAS HERKIMER - Hero: 49 years old. Affluent but humble father figure with a commanding presence.  Head of the Tryon County Militia. Head of the Committee of Safety. Rank: Brigadier General appointed by Maj. General Phillip Schuyler in Albany. Rock of the Mohawk Valley. Beloved by the Mohawk Valley patriots. Unshakeable patriot.
 
*GIL MARTIN - Lead male: 20’s: a bit naïve and innocent. Hard worker, in love with his wife. Wants a family and to live a decent life.  Singing ability a plus!
 
*LANA MARTIN - Lead female: 20’s:  Singing ability a must!
 
CAPT. MARK DEMOOTH - Faithful Militia captain of Nicholas Herkimer. A pillar of society. One of modestly affluent means.
 
ADAM HELMER - “The timber beast”. Rugged woodsman. Most comfortable in the woods. Great soldier/scout.  No formal education. A ladies man. A bit mischevious. Trustworthy. Staunch patriot.
 
MRS. McKLENNAR - Mature female: Ornery  and feisty but compassionate.
 
CAPT. JOSEPH BRANT - Mohawk Chief. Early 30’s. Proud, intelligent, confident, educated, stoic, brilliant leader of the Mohawks. Former close friend of Nicholas Herkimer. Compassionate but has unwavering faith to King George III.
 
COL. PETER GANSEVOORT - Commander of Fort Schuyler. Approx. 32 years, Tall, blonde, brave, highly competent. A Dutchman. Unshakeable patriot. Hero type.
 
COL. MARINUS WILLETT - Second in command at Fort Schuyler. Approx. 40 yrs. Old. Highly competent second in command at Fort Schuyler. Unshakeable patriot. Hero type.
 
COL. EBENEZER COX -  One of Herkimer’s militia officers. 20’s - 30’s. Ornry. Does not care for Nicholas Herkimer’s leadership style. Prone to impulse. Hot temper.

*HONYERRY DOXTADER - Oneida Indian Chief. Faithful friend of Nicholas Herkimer. Stoic, proud, humble, trustworthy. Singing ability a must!
 
SPENCER THE ONEIDA - Oneida Indian: Stoic and trustworthy ally of the patriots. Great scouting ability. A patriot spy of General Philip Schuyler, Commander of the Northern Department in Albany, NY.
 
ENSIGN WALTER BUTLER - The “villain”. Son of the Mohawk Valley’s most powerful and prominent Tory John Butler.  [Tory=loyal to King George III]. Confident, intelligent, brash, a ladies man. A lawyer by profession.  Excellent motivator and a man of means. Can be ruthless.
 
BRIGADIER GENERAL BENEDICT ARNOLD - America’s best fighting general. A favorite of General George Washington. Brash, confident, yet civilized and a steadfast patriot.
 
*MARIA HERKIMER - Young, sweet, unassuming second wife of Nicholas Herkimer. Singing ability a plus.
 
YOUNG SOLDIER - Early 20’s. Young, inexperienced in war.
 
DR. ROBERT JOHNSTON-SURGEON - Early 20’s: Personal surgeon of Benedict Arnold.
 
COL. PETER BELLINGER - Late 20’s ish. Brave Colonel in Herkimer’s militia. Steadfast patriot.
 
DR. PETRY - Local Mohawk Valley doctor. Personal friend of Nicholas Herkimer. Steadfast patriot.
 
CAPT. GARDINIER - Rugged woodsman. Beard a must.
 
HAN YOST SCHUYLER - The Tory “halfwit” sidekick of Walter Butler. Known to get along well with the native peoples because of his “special powers”.
 
*TRIPP  - Herkimer’s slave. African American male.  Singing ability a must!
 
DAISY - Mrs. McKlennar’s slave. African American female.
