*THE SHOW*
In the Dutch city of Edam, famed for its cleanliness, conformity, industry,
and cheese, they have no time for silliness and imagination. Katrijn,
daughter of the Burgomaster, longs to be a painter, but has little time for
that after housekeeping and cheese making. When a storm washes a mermaid
into the town square the Burgomaster tries to make her conform to the town
ideal, but her resistance also helps to free Katrijin.

Excerpts from The Mermaid of Edam were performed for Prince
Willem-Alexander and Princess Maxima of the Netherlands during their 2009
visit to Albany.
