GHENT PLAYHOUSE ANNOUNCES AUDITIONS FOR FINAL PRODUCITON OF THE 2013-14 SEASON   “JOHN STEINBECK’S THE GRAPES OF WRATH”
 

Ghent Playhouse will hold open auditions for “John Steinbeck’s The Grapes of Wrath”, a classic saga of displaced heartland Americans during the Dust Bowl Depression. The novel was adapted for the stage by Frank Galati and the Steppenwolff Theater Coompany   Performances dates are May 23-25, May 30-June 1 and June 6-8.  Directed by Joe Phillips.

 

Auditions will take place Sunday and Monday, March 2 & 3, with additional auditions and callbacks on Monday, March 10  -- sign-ins at 7, auditions at 7:30 p.m. on Sunda, March 2, at the Ghent Playhouse, Route 66 and Town Hall Place across from the Ghent Fire House, in Ghent, Columbia County.

PLEASE NOTE THIS CHANGE OF VENUE FOR MONDAY, MARCH 3.

On Monday, March 3 and for callbacks on March 10, Auditions will be held at the Ghent VFW hall, across Route 66 from the Playhouse and Firehouse, and just behind the office of The Columbia Paper.

 

Seeking up to 30 performers of all ages:

Adult cast includes eleven members of the extended Joad family, including, Tom Joad, not-quite-30, rugged and hard-edged;

Rev. Jim Casy, a former preacher;

Ma and Pa Joad;

Grandma, Grandpa and Uncle John Joad;

Tom’s older and younger brothers Noah and Al.

Tom’s sister Rosasharn and her husband Connie.

Also seeking an ensemble of perhaps 12 to 16 male and female actors of a variety of ages, all playing multiple speaking roles; and five or more children under 12, at least three of whom will have speaking roles (two as the youngest Joad children).

 

Readings will be from the script; some performers may also be asked to sing a capella.  No need to prepare; special abilities to play rural-Americana-style instruments from guitar and banjo to fiddle to harmonica and jaw-harp also sought. Occasional rehearsals begin in mid-to-late March and then at least four nights a week from April 13 until performances begin.
