Show Synopsis: Seussical the Musical seamlessly weaves together many of the great books of famed author Dr. Seuss. The Cat in the Hat tells the story of Horton, an elephant who discovers a speck of dust containing Whos, including Jojo, a Who child sent off to the military school for thinking too many “thinks.” Horton faces a double challenge – not only must he protect the Whos from a world of naysayers and dangers, but he must guard an abandoned egg, left to his care by the irresponsible Mayzie La Bird. Although Horton faces ridicule, danger, kidnapping, and a trial, the intrepid Gertrude McFuzz never loses faith in him. Ultimately, the powers of friendship, loyalty, family, and community are challenged and emerge triumphant. Fun for the whole family, Seussical embraces creativity, imagination, and so much heart even the Grinch couldn’t say no!

No roles are precast and the show provides an opportunity to highlight and showcase many individuals and talents while still creating an ensemble of people working together. Auditions are open to students currently in 2nd-12th grade. There are a wide range of characters and ages!

Please bring a calendar of conflicts to the auditions. Call backs may be held if needed.

THERE IS NO TUITION ASSOCIATED WITH THIS PRODUCTION!
CHARACTERS:
The Cat in the Hat – the story’s omniscient narrator who is fun loving. The Cat pops up throughout the story to help the audience and plays a string of zany characters (the Cat can be played by either a male or female)

Horton the Elephant – a blue collar, compassionate and gentle elephant. He is commonly misunderstood because of his larger size, but he is protective and loving of all.

Gertrude McFuzz – Horton’s one-feathered-tail bird neighbor. Gertrude is sweet and timid. Though kind and loyal, she is also self-conscious of her shortfalls.

Jojo – The Mayor’s son/daughter – a Who that is always finding trouble. Bright, creative, and inadvertently mischievous, Jojo possesses a wildly expansive imagination and finds solace in his friendship with Horton.

Mayzie La Bird – The most beautiful bird in all of the jungle and oblivious to her self-centered ways, she relies on her talent of manipulation and beauty to navigate her way through life.

Sour Kangaroo – The “leader” of the jungle, she is loud, brassy, and stubbornly set in her ways. A caring mother, but unabashedly sassy and soulful.

The Mayor – The leader of Whoville and father of Jojo. The Mayor means the best for Jojo, but is unable to understand all of Jojo’s wild “thinks.”

Mrs. Mayor – the wife of the Mayor and mother to Jojo. She too is often flustered by Jojo’s wild imagination.

General Genghis Khan Schmitz – the general of the Academy who leads Jojo to war, pompous but trying to be a good leader and shaper of futures.

Ensemble and Other Characters include The Wickersham Brothers, the Bird Girls, Yertle the Turtle, the Grinch, Cindy Lou Who, Vlad Vladikoff, Hunches, the fish of McElligot’s Pool, the Who’s, Jungle Creatures, Hunters, Circus Performers, and Military Academy Cadets.
