Preparation
AEA Actors prepare either Prepare:
1) a dramatic or comic contemporary monologue; OR 
2) prepare 16 bars of a Broadway song & a 1 minute monologue; OR
3) if only singing, a brief Broadway song 

If singing, bring sheet music in correct key; accompanist provided.
Bring picture and resume, stapled together.

Based on the children’s classic story by Frances Hodgson Burnett, THE SECRET GARDEN enchants and charms with a Tony-Award winning score. An orphaned girl transforms a neglected garden into a paradise and opens the hearts of all around her.

NOTE: The production features musician/actors and requires that several actors play violin, viola or woodwinds – Celtic style.

Mary Lennox: Female, 10-12 yrs old (range: young voice, Ab3-D5) A headstrong, smart and curious young girl – lots of emotional range (must appear to be 10-12 years old)

Mrs. Medlock/Dreamer Chorus: Female, 40s (range: mezzo) Actor needs to play violin, viola or woodwind

Martha/Dreamer Chorus: Female, 20s-early 30s (Range: Mezzo-Soprano Belt, G3-D5) Actor must play violin, viola, woodwind or horn. Yorkshire accent.

Dr. Neville Craven/Dreamer Chorus: Male, 35-45 (Range: Baritone/Tenor, C3-F#4) Actor needs to play cello, violin, viola or woodwind

Archibald Craven: Male, 35-45 (Range: Tenor/Bari, C3-A4)

World Premiere - comedy

When webmaster Steve loses his job, he and his young teacher wife, Nan (who has aspirations to be Linda Gates) are thrown for a desperate loop. From an affluent family, Steve comes under pressure at the holidays to give until it hurts. Buckling under the family expectations and ashamed at their financial plight, Steve and Nan decide to make up a charity, create a website and give a donation in each relatives name to help dig clean water wells in Africa. Chaos and hilarity ensue when the fake website goes viral and starts collecting real money from real donors.

Seeking:

Nan – female, late 20s, High school English teacher who aspires to be Linda Gates. Sassy, smart. Good comic timing crucial. Likable. Really loves her husband, who is much more straight-laced.

Molly – female, early 30s – Nan’s best friend. She’s sick of looking for Mr. Right and wants to take matters into her own hands. Funny, inventive with a big heart.

Ayutunde – female, 20s-early 30s. A young African woman who travels a great distance to thank her benefactors. Smart, Wise, Hilariously funny. Accent required.

Steve – male, late 20s-early 30s. Our reluctant hero. Upstanding citizen. Believes that hard work and to-do lists can give one a purpose in life. Nan’s the global thinker – but he loves her because of it. A scientist/math guy on the outside, an artist on the inside. He’s under his own pressure to do well.

Alan Bell – male, early 30s, Intellectual artiste. He’s published THE book on String Theory Poetry. Quirky and very attractive (but has no clue that he is). He’s looking for purpose and…love.

Note: the following roles/parts will be under non-AEA contracts: Hank (Steve’s older successful brother) and Sally (Herb’s very comfortable wife)

Shakespeare’s tale of revenge, ghosts, murder, betrayal, treachery – and unrequited love. Kevin McGuire directs this production of HAMLET set in the 1920s of Europe’s declining aristocracy. Some cast members will be cast in multiple roles.

Note: the role of Hamlet is cast.

In addition to these plays, Capital Rep will be seeking actors to participate in NEXT ACT, a three-day play summit dedicated to new work. Next Act takes place November 1, 2, and 3. The summit will include readings of 4 plays. Titles will be announced after Labor Day.
