[Capdist-auditions] Albany Civic Theater announces auditions for "Man From Nebraska"

Albany Civc Theater announces AUDITIONS for the first show of its 60th Anniversary Season, “Man From Nebraska” by Tracy Letts, directed by Joh Birchler.

Audition Dates:  Monday, May 5 and Tuesday, May 6
Time:  Sign-ins both nights begin at 7 PM, auditions begin at 7:30 PM
Place:  Albany Civic Theater, 235 Second Ave., Albany NY

Show dates:  August 29-31, September 5-7 and 12-14.
Pay-what-you-will preview Thursday, August 28

There is no need to prepare a monolog; auditions will consist of cold readings from the script.

The nine characters in “Man from Nebraska” are listed below.  The story’s focus is the spiritual crisis facing 57-year-old Ken Carpenter, a life-long believer in God who suddenly realizes that his faith has abandoned him.  All other roles are supporting roles, but each is important in our understanding of Ken.  

To be considered for a role, an actor must be able to play in the age range indicated.  

Ken Carpenter—late 50s; on stage much of the play; has lost his faith in God and left his wife to find himself; spends most of the play trying things he would never have considered before

Nancy Carpenter—mid 50s; Ken’s wife; blindsided by her husband’s attempts to find himself

Cammie Carpenter—late 70s to early 80s; Ken’s mother; addled by dementia, she is spending her final years in a nursing home

Ashley Kohl—late 20s to early 30s; Ken and Nancy’s daughter; very angry with Ken for leaving her mother; tries to take the role of his moral compass

Reverend Todd—mid 40s; thoughtful minister who tries to help Ken discover ways of figuring out what has happened to himself

Pat Monday (female)—late 40s to early 50s; divorced; Ken’s first temptress; role might require partial nudity

Tamyra (woman of color)—late 20s to early 30s, British dialect required; an artist; another temptress for Ken; role might require partial nudity

Bud Todd—70s; Reverend Todd’s father; rather a dirty old man

Harry Brown—early to mid 30s; working class British dialect required; an artist friend of Tamyra; a practicing hedonist
