BARC YOUTH THEATRE COMPANY
Costume Designer  
Qualifications: Must have over five years of theatrical costume design and
experience in working with children in a dance setting ages 10-18 years of
age. 

 Must be able to work closely with director.  Need to have a high school
diploma, college degree recommended, but not required.

      
JOB DESCRIPTION:  Responsible for designing and securing all costumes needed
for each character in show and managing all volunteers in the
costume sweatshop.
 
Key duties include:
 
-Work with director to understand his/her vision and needs, as well as to
work out any potential problems related to time period or other
limitations;
 
-Determine best design of costumes considering script, time period of show,
and body types of actors;
 
-Work with producer to communicate budgetary needs and work within the
assigned budget;
 
-Collect all receipts for expenses and turn in to producer;
 
-Work with producer as necessary to find alternate sources of costumes if
unable to provide what is needed;
 
-Work with producer and director to establish schedule of expectations;
ensure costumes are ready according to schedule;
 
-Work closely with each actor to develop proper costuming for the character,
including initial fittings and follow up fittings;
 
-Work with stage manager and costume crew to explain and develop mechanics
of costume changes when applicable;
 
-Be available to perform any needed repairs to the costumes during the run
of the show, as well as laundering as necessary;
 
-Strike all costumes at end of show, and return only clean costumes to BARC
costume shop or place of orig;
 

 

Hours/week:  2 to 3 days a week for June, July, and August (Evenings)   3 to
4 hours a day.



Salary:  Per BARC Theatre Contract
