Dear Parent(s)/ Guardian(s):

We would like to invite your child(ren), ages 7-15, to participate in a nationally recognized forensic interviewing training, hosted by the Albany County Children's Advocacy Center, Albany County District Attorney's Office, Albany County Department for Children Youth and Families, New York State Office of Children and Family Services and the National Children's Advocacy Center, to be held on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 at the Desmond Hotel, located in Albany, NY. This is an invaluable experience for children, which will allow them to meet and work with staff members from the Albany County District Attorney's Office, Albany County Department for Children, Youth and Families, and local Law Enforcement agencies.

Your child will have the opportunity to be interviewed by a local professional for ten (10) minutes on a topic of your choosing. These topics give our attendees something to focus on while they practice the skills they have learned, i.e. how to develop rapport with children, how to assess developmental stages, and how to ask different styles/ types of questions. The children consider this to be a fun activity and often ask if they can come back. In return, each participating child will receive a $20 gift card.

We do record each practice interview so that the trainee can have their recorded video to review when they return home. We may also use your child's video for training purposes, i.e. to show a developmentally appropriate interview.

We will have two sessions of interviews on Tuesday, October 7, 2014, the first from 9:30 a.m. - 11:45 a.m. and the second from 1:00 p.m. - 2:50 p.m. Each child will need to check in at the Desmond Hotel at his/her assigned interview time on Tuesday, October 7, 2014 depending on which session s/he will be participating in. Albany County Child Advocacy Center staff members and volunteers will provide supervision for the children.  Additionally, snacks and beverages will be provided to enjoy along with age-appropriate games and crafts.

Please complete the attached form and return it to Drama Kids by September 30, 2014. Please do not tell your child which topic(s) you write down on the attached sheet. The attendees will learn more from this experience if your child does not already know what they are going to be asked about specifically.
