Fiddler on the Roof AuditionsAudition dates May 26 & 27 6-9PMwith callbacks May 29 6-9PM. The role of Tevye is cast Prepare 32 measures of asong in the style of show----no rock or contemporary selections!  You maysing from the show if you wish.  Bring sheet music---no acapella. Comeprepared for a movement/dance audition as well with proper shoes--no sandals orflip flops.  You may be asked to read from sides as well. FIDDLER ON THE ROOF CHARACTERDESCRIPTIONS: Golde, Female, 40-50 Mezzo.Tevye’s wife Golde is the realstrength behind Tevye, the one who keeps the household going. She is veryconcerned that her daughters make good matches and have easier lives than she& Tevye have had. Good comic timing for very funny lines. Tzeitel, the eldest daughter Female18-25 AltoTzeitel is the first daughter tomarry and the first to challenge the traditions. She has a desperate cryingscene with Tevye when faced with marrying Lazar Wolf instead of Motel, who shereally loves. A strong dramatic actress Hodel, the 2nd eldest daughterFemale 18-23 SopranoHodel becomes intrigued with theradical, young student, Perchik. She eventually leaves Anatevka to join him inSiberia where he is imprisoned for his reform activities. Hodel sings ahaunting solo as she says goodbye to her father at the train station. Chava, the 3rd eldest daughter Female 15-20 MezzoChava is the scholarly daughter wholoves to read. She falls in love and runs off with Fyedka, a Russian soldier,and breaks her father’s heart. This role requires a capable dramatic actresswho can perform an emotional dance. Shprintze the 4th eldest daughterFemale 9-12 Shprintze she take lessons at homefrom Perchik & appear in several scenes with some speaking line Bielke the 5th eldest daughterFemale 6-9Bielke she take lessons at home fromPerchik & appear in several scenes with some speaking line Motel, the tailor Male 18-30Bari-TenorMotel is a rather meek & poortailor who seeks the hand of Tzeitel, and comes into his own in the process!This is a terrific character role needing a sensitive, nervous but loveableportrayal. Perchik, the student Male 20-30BaritonePerchik is a visitor to Anatevka,and therefore, an outsider. He brings with him radical new ideas that challengethe traditions. He falls for Hodel. This role requires an actor capable ofshowing intensity and an unfailing commitment to his beliefs. Fyedka, a Russian soldier Male 18-25Tenor Move WellFyedka, a strong young soldier, seespast his military obligations and falls in love with Chava. He challengesTevye’s imposed silence towards him. Fyedka has a solo in “To Life” and dancesa Russian dance with his fellow soldiers. Lazar Wolf, the butcher Male 40-60BaritoneLazar is the town’s wealthiestcitizen & is the same age, if not older, than Tevye. He wants to marry, bytraditional parental agreement,Tevye’s daughter, Tzeitel. Promising to give hera good & secure life. A feisty, comic role. Yente, the matchmaker Female 40-60AltoYente is the middle-aged widow whomatches up the young people of the village in the hopes that they will marry.She is the village busybody and knows all the news of the town. She is thecomedienne of the show.  The Constable Male 35-60 This Russian military officialstationed near Anatevka, knows the villagers well, and even likes some of them,particularly Tevye. But these superficial relationships don’t prevent him fromcarrying out violence against the people. This is a non-singing role requiringa strong actor. The Rabbi Male 50-70Anatevka’s Jewish spiritual leader.  Mendel Male 20-30The Rabbi’s son. He is uncertain ofthe presence of Perchik in the village. Mordcha Male 30-60Mordcha, the innkeeper Runs the barin town and is a friend of Tevye. Avram Male 40-60Avram, the bookseller Runs thebookshop in town and keeps the town advised of all of the news in the area. Fiddler Male Move wellFiddler the fiddler appears.
