CALL FOR ENTRIES!
A call for entries for theREP’s Young Playwright Contest
The School of the Performing Arts at theREP to produce five 10-minute plays by teens, for teens, staring teens.
The School of the Performing Arts at theREP announces a call for entries for their second annual Young Playwright Contest. Contest winners will see their work professionally produced on theREP’s stage. Submission deadline is Sunday, February 21, 2016.
The five contest-winning plays will be professionally mounted on theREP’s stage, with costumes, props and a set designed and built by theREP’s production team. The Summer Stage Young Acting Company, a troupe comprised of up to 20 young aspiring actors, will perform the plays. A casting call for the summer company will follow the announcement of the winners.
In addition to the public production of their plays, the five contest-winning playwrights will receive a mentorship with a professional playwright in June 2016. During these mentorship sessions, the young playwrights will hone their script for production and sharpen their writing skills. Last year’s mentors include playwrights Aaron Jafferis (Shakespeare the Remix) and Suzanne Bradbeer (The God Game and Naked Influence).
Playwrights will also receive an invitation to the first read through of their plays by theREP’s Summer Stage Young Acting Company, and will be invited into the rehearsal room to be a part of the process – bringing their words to life, from the page onto the stage.
