*THEATER VOICES will hold auditions for a staged reading of I AND YOU, by
Lauren Gunderson, directed by Michael Kennedy.*
*LOCATION:*
Steamer No. 10 Theatre, 500 Western Avenue, Albany - corner of West
Lawrence Street.
*TIMES:*
Sunday January 18 7:pm-9:00pm
Monday January 19 7:00pm-9:00pm
*NEEDED*:
ONE YOUNG MAN ABLE TO PLAY AGE 17
ONE YOUNG WOMAN ABLE TO PLAY AGE 17
*Please note: The characters in I AND YOU must be of different ethnic
backgrounds. Actors of all ethnicities are encouraged to audition.*
*Character Breakdown:*
ANTHONY: Neat, poised, and mature for his age. An “A” student, a team
player, a nice guy. A bit awkward around girls. Takes his homework very
seriously and when he likes something, like Jazz, he is all in.
CAROLINE: Homebound for a long time, due to a progressive illness. She is
cynical, over it, rarely lets a stray “feeling” near the surface.
*Synopsis:*
On the night before a class assignment is due, Caroline, homebound and
critically ill, and Anthony, a popular and exuberant high school student,
explore the mysteries of Walt Whitman's *Leaves of Grass*. Initially
cautious, they become willing to risk sharing their deepest fears and
greatest hopes, leading them to a moment of reckoning in which they must
fully understand Whitman's line "your very flesh shall be a great poem.
Actors will be asked to read scenes from the play. Please arrive as close
to start time as possible and be prepared to stay until the end of
auditions.
Production Dates are March 27, 28, 29, 2015
Four performances (Fri.-Sun.) at Steamer No. 10 Theatre, Albany.
Rehearsals will begin in early February.
