DANCE INSTRUCTOR | JOB DESCRIPTION

for BROADWAY DANCE this summer at Proctors

JULY 13-19

1-4:30pm Mainstage  

Broadway Dance: Designed specifically for advanced dancers who are ready to be challenged, this program offers individualized attention combined with the inspiring setting of Proctors Mainstage.  Dance industry professionals will provide training and technique development in musical theatre dance and other styles of dance to build a solid dance repertoire.  Throughout the week students will learn choreography from Broadway musicals and also participate in an audition tips and techniques class.  A mixture of music, dialogue, dance/movement, song and story, Broadway Dance is ideal for building a solid dance foundation for musical theatre, as well as learning to be comfortable on stage. At the end of the week, students will showcase their skills in a short presentation for friends and family. Ages 10-14 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

·      Lead workshops in musical theatre dance technique

·      Teach Broadway show choreography as means for teaching technique

·      Mentor young dancers in skill development, interest in art form, auditions and life as professional dancer

·      Supervise and guide inclusion of dance intern.

QUALIFICATIONS, EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

·      Minimum two years teaching experience (preferably with pre-teens and teens).

·      Professional experience on Broadway or touring Broadway required.

·      Professional knowledge of various dance styles and demonstrated proficiency/technique in musical theater dance

·      Experience working with diverse communities, able to create a supportive, democratic organizational culture (team-building, conflict management, humor, flexibility, energy and vision).

·      Excellent leadership, group facilitation, written & oral communication, and organizational skills.
