Actors and Actresses should prepare 32 bars of a Broadway song, and songs from the show are allowed. An accompanist will be provided. Sides will be available at audition for cold readings.  Those auditioning for the roles of Pseudolus have the option of preparing a 1 minute comedic monologue from stage or screen (need not be memorized).

Pseudolus - A Roman slave, owned by Hero, who seeks to win his freedom by helping his young master win the heart of Philia. Quick-witted, scheming, childlike spirit. Role requires comedic timing and a firm grasp of vaudevillian style.

Senex - An old man and father to Hero and unhappy husband to Domina.
Gender: male
Age: 45 to 70

Domina - Senex's wife, Hero's mother. A shrewish woman who dominates to the point of answering herself the questions she asks of others. Loves her husband, but is very controlling, and demanding.

Hero - The young son of Senex and Domina. He falls in love with Philia and agrees to give Pseudolus his freedom if he can help Hero woo her. Practical, privileged, romantic.

Hysterium -The chief slave in the House of Senex. Believes he is in control, but is actually Pseudolus' puppet to carry out his schemes. Anxious, conservative, loyal. He desperately wants everything to be in order.

Erronius -A simple old man, searching for his lost children. Has poor eyesight or memory and is easily tricked.

Miles Gloriosus- The archetype of the braggart soldier. A captain in the Roman army to whom Marcus Lycus has promised Philia. Commanding, boastful, manly and strong.

Lycus - The owner of the house of Courtesans. Always out to make a profit.
Gender: male
Age: 40 to 50

Vocal range bottom: A3

Philia - A virgin in the House of Lycus. She is promised to Miles, but loves Hero. Young, pretty, devoted. An archetypal ingénue.

Gymnasia, Panecea, Tintinabula, Vibrata and the Gemini - Six courtesans in the House of Lycus. The Gemini are twins or look very similar. These roles require some dancing ability.

Vocal Range: Any

Ensemble - Courtesans, Proteans, and Soldiers - any age or type. These 3 to 4 people will act as all background characters, often changing costumes and even genders to suit the roles as needed. Comic timing and improvisation skills will be helpful. These roles contain stage time, lines and singing.
