CCYT Scenic Design Artist Program
 
Columbia County Youth Theatre Inc. is engaging scenic technician, Mr. William Sohmer, formerly of the Metropolitan Opera, to provide a scenic design workshop for students during the 2016 Summer Musical Theater Workshop season currently produced for the Mac-Haydn Theatre.
 
The workshop will be held on the Chatham Fairgrounds in Chatham, NY, and meet Mondays through Thursdays from July 5th to August 6th. 
 
High school and college age students interested in pursuing a degree in art or a related field are invited to work in the unique sphere of theater scenic art. Students will work with Mr. Sohmer for a thorough five week summer workshop which will provide hands-on experience in design and creation of backdrops and set pieces. Students will also be exposed to wider aspects of stage design and learn to negotiate factors involved in identifying materials, which meet with the budget of the program.
 
Interested students will be asked to submit a letter of interest, and two professional references.  Only two placements are available. Tuition is $500.00.
