Show dates: May 6-22, 2016, Fridays, Saturdays at 7:30pm, Sundays at 3pm

Pay-what-you-will preview: Thursday, May 5

There is no need to prepare a monologue; auditions will consist of cold
readings from the script.

Laughter on the 23rd Floor is inspired by Neil Simon's early career
experience as a junior writer on Sid Caesar's Your Show of Shows. The play
focuses on Sid Caesar-like Max Prince, the star of a weekly comedy-variety
show circa 1953, and his staff, including Simon's alter ego Lucas Brickman
who maintains a running commentary on the writing, fighting, and wacky
antics which take place in the writers' room.

To be considered for a role, an actor must be able to play in the age range
indicated.

Lucas (20s) - newest member of the writing staff hoping to secure a
permanent place on the writing team. He is the narrator of the play.

Milt (30s to 50s) - seasoned writer on show who is always making jokes.
Having some difficulties with his home life.

Val (40s to 60s, male) - senior member of the writing staff, a Russian
immigrant. Russian accent needed.

Brian (late 20s to 30s) - rumpled, balding, of Irish descent, a heavy
smoker, a heavy cougher, and a heavy drinker, but with a biting sense of
humor as caustic as his outlook on life.

Kenny (30s) - intelligent, dapper, the most sophisticated of the writing
staff.

Carol (late 20s to 30s) - has a strong and quick defense system that comes
from being the only female writer on the staff.

Max Prince (30s to 40s) - brilliant but very moody and sometimes paranoid.
He exudes great strength which comes more from his anger than his physique,
and is quixotic, changing quickly from warm, infectious laughter to sullen
anger.

Helen (any age) - Max's secretary. She is extremely efficient as a
secretary but can be a little dim. Secretly wants to be a comedy writer
but doesn't seem to "get" comedy.

Ira (late 20s to 40s) - all energy with a touch of brilliant madness. He
is a hypochondriac who consistently shows up late. He and Brian do not get
along.
