THEATER VOICES will hold auditions for a staged reading of THE SHAPE OF
THINGS by Neil Labute, directed by Patricia Bunce.



*Location*

    Steamer No. 10 Theatre, 500 Western Avenue, Albany - corner of West
Lawrence Street.



*Times*

    Sunday February 21 7:00pm-9:30pm

    Monday February 22 7:00pm-9:30pm

Please arrive either night by 7pm  and be prepared to stay until the end of
auditions.  Actors will be asked to read scenes from the play.



*Needed:* 2 women 20’s

               2 men 20’s



Adam: a quiet, insecure, unassuming and hard working college student in his
20's falls for a worldly graduate  student and is transformed into a
confident and courageous new self. Although willing to go along for the
ride, Adam loses himself and is conflicted about the price of love.



Evelyn: 20's . Outspoken and pretentious graduate student completing her
MFA in Art at a conservative mid- western college.  Fiercely direct and
intelligent, Evelyn tells it like it is and steps over the line to unveil
the truth about Art, no matter what the cost.



Phillip: 20's. Adam’s friend and former roommate, Phillip is opinionated
and attention seeking. Suspicious of Evelyn and loyal to Adam, Phillip
challenges Evelyn to expose her pretentiousness to protect his friend.



Jenny: 20's. Phillip's fiancé and Adam's friend.  Caring and always wishing
to avoid conflict, Jenny is supportive of Adam's transformation and
confused by her relationship with Phillip. She reaches out to Adam for
support and discovers she has feelings for him.





*Synopsis*: This contemporary story of love and art, set in a Midwestern
college town, follows the unexpected romance between Evelyn, an attractive,
worldly art major, and Adam, an unsophisticated young man who has never had
much success with women. As their relationship progresses and Evelyn
strengthens her hold on Adam, his emotional and physical evolution
discomforts his closest friends, with unexpected consequences for all.
