Town Players of Pittsfield announces auditions for its upcoming April staged reading of
Martin McDonagh’s "The Cripple of Inishmaan". Auditions will be held at the Whitney Center for the Arts, 42 Wendell Avenue in Pittsfield on Monday, February 22 and Tuesday, February 23. Sign in both nights will begin at 7:00 pm with auditions starting at 7:30 pm. If necessary, callbacks will be held at a later date and will be by invitation. Actors should be prepared to present a short monologue (drama or comedy). If needed, monologues will be available at the audition. Actors may also be called upon to read sides from the script, both singularly
and in combination with others. No memorization or preparation of sides is required. An Irish dialect
will be used in this production, though it will not necessarily be required during the audition process.

Set on a remote island off the west coast of Ireland in 1934, "The Cripple of Inishmaan" is a
strange comic tale in the great tradition of Irish storytelling. As word arrives on Inishmaan that the
Hollywood director Robert Flaherty is coming to the neighboring island of Inishmore to film "Man of Aran", the one person who wants to be in the film more than anybody is young Cripple Billy, if only to
break away from the bitter tedium of his daily life.

Rehearsals will be held 1-3 times per week and those auditioning are asked to come prepared to list all conflicts
between the date of auditions and date of performance. Due to the limited time for rehearsal, we ask that
auditioners please be honest with their availability. The rehearsal schedule will be created based on those
selected for the cast and the conflicts listed on their audition forms.
