Seeking:
Equity actors and non-equity actors for various roles in the upcoming 2016-17 Season shows.

Prepare either:
1)            a brief dramatic or comic contemporary monologue of your choice; OR
2)            prepare 16 bars of a Classic Broadway song and a 1-minute monologue; OR
3)            if only singing, prepare a brief Classic Broadway song (1 verse/chorus)

If singing, bring sheet music in correct key; accompanist provided but may not transpose.  Bring picture and resume, stapled together.

EPA rules are in effect.
A monitor will be provided.
Equity Actors: No appointments necessary.
Non-Equity Actors, EMCs: We will see selected Non-equity and EMC actors for all roles in Camelot provided they have intermediate experience playing the following instruments: flute, trumpet, clarinet, oboe, French horn, violin, cello, guitar, mandolin, lute, harp.

(this is a remount of a previous production at Capital Rep that will use the same actor as The Poet)

OUTSIDE MULLINGAR

First rehearsal:  8/30/16 runs through 10/16/16

Bachelor farmer, Anthony takes care of his curmudgeonly father, under the watchful yearning eyes of his spinster neighbor, Rosemary and her mother Aoife.  A  strip of contested land between the two farms keeps the two younger people apart – along with fears of love, madness and bumblebees.

SEEKING:
Male: Tony Reilly, character is “75 or so,” sharp tongued and ornery. Likes it when everyone else is upset.  Droll, funny and fierce.  Actor must be facile with language and Irish accent.

Male: Anthony Rielly, 40s, naturally good looking with no self awareness. Identifies with the land.  Not groomed or fussy.  Has the soul of an Irish poet but none of the outward finesse.  Shy socially.  A dreamer. Always wants to do the right thing –but his fear of madness keeps him from really living.  We need to root for him to get the girl next door. Facile with language and Irish accent.

Female:  Rosemary, mid 30’s, an attractive but ungroomed rural woman, insightful, but emotionally repressed.  Smoking is the way she calms her nerves.  Holds in her heart a deep love for her childhood friend and neighbor, Anthony. She recognizes and loves his poetic soul and builds up courage in the play to take a big risk in the end.  Facile with language and Irish accent.

Female: Aoife, character is 70, droll and often talks about her oncoming death and what’s for dinner in the same sentence.  Contrary but witty, she’s the counterpart to Tony, who has been her reluctant friend and neighbor since childhood.  There’s not a sentimental bone in her body.  Facile with language and Irish accent.

(Thanksgiving Day off/closes on Christmas Eve day with AM performance)

This beautiful musical, includes the classic songs, If Ever I Would Leave You; How to Handle a Woman; I Wonder What the King Is Doing Tonight; What Do The Simple Folk Do? and the title song.  Based on the T.H. White novel, The Once and Future King, the story chronicles the fateful myth of magic, love and betrayal from the arrival of the lovely Guinevere to her   marriage to King Arthur to the heartbreaking triangle that develops when Arthur’s favorite knight, Lancelot, falls in love with the queen.  An American classic with a towering score, this Tony-Award winning musical will be produced at Capital Rep by a cast of 10 actors, 8 of whom will play multiple roles and be required to play musical instruments.

NOTE:  8 actors, several cast in multiple roles, will augment the orchestra with any of the following instruments: flute, trumpet, clarinet, oboe, French horn, violin, cello, guitar, mandolin, lute, harp.  Playing must be at moderate – not beginner – level.

SEEKING

Male: Arthur, 40s-50s; Baritone.  Charismatic leader; exudes confidence, wisdom and kindness – except with women – whom he fears and reverts to being a boy.  An idealist who rules with love, not fear, he must have the strength to face heart-crushing reality when betrayed by his wife and best friend.  A ruler in crisis, he still must make us yearn for leadership like his.  Emotional depth, sense of humor, generous soul.  Baritone.  Must be facile with language. English accent.  (This part does not require playing an instrument, but we welcome playing one as well)

Male: Lancelot, 30s-40; Baritone.  The ultimate hero – handsome, brave, loyal and emotionally available.  His charm is real.  He’s French and is proud – and to some – arrogant.  The kind of man you want by your side in any fight.  He truly loves Guinevere and Arthur.  Big baritone.  Has the show-stopping, If Ever I Would Leave You.  Slight French accent.  (This part does not require playing an instrument, but playing an instrument is welcome and appreciated)

Male:  Merlin/Pellinore and as cast, 40-60s; Spoken singing.  Merlin: mentor to Arthur.  Wise and wizened.  Magical, slightly forgetful, strategic and sly.  Pellinore:  somewhat confused, but a good and generous force.  English accent. (This part requires playing any of the instruments listed above)

Male:  Mordred/Sir Lionel and as cast, 20s-30s, Tenor.  Mordred: Arthur’s illegitimate son with a belly full of vengeance and revenge.  Sir Lionel – a knight smitten with Guenevere (This part requires playing any of the instruments listed above)

Male:  Tom of Warwick/Sir Dinadan,  late 30s-40s, Baritone.  Stalwart friend and classic Knight.  A believer.  (This part requires playing any of the instruments listed above)

Female: Queen Guinevere – late 20-30s; Soprano.  Lovely and promising, Guinevere transforms from a girl to a woman in the course of the play.  Loving and admiring of Arthur, she finds true love with Lancelot, along with pain, guilt and remorse.  Giving in to passion, she equally feels the agony of her betrayal.  Emotional depth –regal bearing that can collapse into a young girl’s giddiness at a moment’s notice.  English accent.  (this part requires playing any of the instruments  – guitar/mandolin/strings preferred but flute/oboe good too)

Female:  Morgan Le Fey and as cast – 20s-30s – Mezzo or Soprano – this performer must have acrobatic skills and athletic ability.  Some of the blocking will involve being able to balance and perform on hanging silks.  (this part requires musical ability with an instrument listed above)

ASSISTED LOVING  (world premiere)

Starts rehearsal:  1/3/17 runs through:  2/19/16

This delightfully funny and touching comedy is based on the author’s acclaimed memoir of his life with his widowed father, when dad asked for help to maneuver through the computer dating scene after the death of his wife.  In the play, Sol’s search inspires son David to do the same, resulting in a series of failed and funny relationships for both men, bumping along on the road to ultimate happiness with the right partner. Sol’s dates are all played by the same actress and David’s dates are all played by the same actor.  Great parts all around in a play that embraces new definitions of family and friendship.

SEEKING:
Male:  Sol, character appears to be in his late 70s.  A unique charismatic, funny widower who’s been around and knows he’s happier when he’s married.  He wants to be happy and he wants his middle-aged, single, gay son to be happy too.  Not as sophisticated as his son would like, he uses a toothpick, dines out with coupons and isn’t afraid to say he likes sex.  Splits his time between long island and Florida and is a happy flirt in both locations.  Sings and makes up lyrics to old standards to woe his ladyfriends, but has a bad temper when people disagree with him that has been a problem with dating.  He’s lovable, impossible, endearing, irascible and likeable all at the same time.  New York sensibility.

Male:  David, mid 30s-40.  Smart.  Well educated.  Very droll and keenly observant. A nice guy but a snob.  He knows what he like and writes about fashion and style for renown publications.  When the play starts, he is completely ruled by appearance and admits it.  This makes him ashamed of his dad, who annoys him by chewing on toothpicks, having stains on his shirts and living life on coupon discounts.  His bravado gets him nowhere and is betrayed by deep loneliness and a desire to connect.  He tries and fails on his own terms and finally learns to love by helping his dad to find love again.  Actor needs to understand comedy and be able to work directly with the audience on the direct address the play requires.

Male:  The Dates.    30s - Versatile actor, comic chameleon to play a series of failed dates for David.  (Note: Ultimately, the actors playing David and the Dates needs to have a resemblance - it’s part of the plot).  Manhattan vibe.

Female:  Edi and the other dates:  60s – Versatile actress to play Sol’s ultimate love, Edi, and also his failed dates from a very sophisticated Upper East Side lady to a socially-awkward shell-shocked widow.  New York sensibility to match Sol.
