Subject: AUDITION ANNOUNCEMENT

MAGICAL STAGE ACTING TROUPE is holding auditions for "Sylvia" by A.R. Gurney.

This is a delightful Romantic Comedy, recently on Broadway. Synopsis:

Greg and Kate have moved to Manhattan after 22 years of child raising in the suburbs. Greg brings home a dog he found in the park - or that has found him - bearing only the name "Sylvia" on her name tag. She offers Greg an escape from the frustrations of his job and the unknowns of middle age. To Kate, Sylvia becomes a rival for affection. And Sylvia thinks Kate just doesn't understand the relationship between man and dog. This is a howingly mad comedy and most endearing. It is beautiful, funny, touching and profound. Although Sylvia is a "dog", she is portrayed by a human, bearing all human traits and emotion but displaying some "behaviors" of a dog in a comedic sort of way.

We are looking for someone to play the part of "Kate", Greg's wife. She is around 40's - 50's, stoic and a bit controlling to Greg. That is what makes "Sylvia" so comforting , understanding, taking him away from the humdrum life he thinks he has with Kate. As Greg and Sylvia grow closer - Kate, of course, resents Sylvia tremendously and it's as if there is a war between two women, rather than a "dog" and a woman! It's truly hysterical, yet very profound. This is a major role.
