*HUBBARD HALL CENTER FOR THE ARTS AND EDUCATION ANNOUNCES OPPORTUNITIES FOR
ACTORS, PLAYWRIGHTS, AND DIRECTORS*
(Cambridge, NY November 1, 2016) Hubbard Hall invites artists to audition
for *The Book Club Play* by Karen Zacarias on Saturday, November 19. Also
at this time through November 4, submissions for playwrights and directors
are being accepted for our 3rd Annual Winter Carnival of New Work to be
performed in January of 2017. In keeping with Hubbard Hall’s mission to
combine professionals, seasoned amateurs, students, and novices in its
productions, everyone who has a strong desire to participate is invited to
audition and submit your work. Those people interested in working behind
the scenes in a technical capacity are also urged to inquire.
*Auditions for The Book Club Play by Karen Zacarias, directed by Kirk
Jackson.*
Auditions will take place Saturday, November 19 from 2-5pm in the Freight
Depot Theater on Hubbard Hall’s campus. We are seeking a diverse group of
seven actors able to play young professionals in their 30’s (three men,
three women and one either playing multiple roles). *The Book Club Play*
will rehearse Feb 6-March 3 and run March 4-19. To gain an audition slot
please email hhauditions2016 at gmail.com with the subject line “Book Club
Play” and attach a resume and headshot if possible.
* Submission Notice for Winter Carnival 2017 *Playwrights and Directors are
invited to submit their one-act work for consideration in the Third Annual
Winter Carnival of New Work. Priority will be given to plays dealing in
some way with farming, agriculture, the land and related themes, as these
works will play in repertory with the Farming Plays Project, an original
collaborative play being created with the Washington County Farming
Community. Deadline for submissions is Friday, November 4, 2016 at 5pm.
Play runtimes should be in the range of 10-50 minutes (approximately 50
pages or less – nothing over 60 pages will be considered). We prefer work
that has not been produced before or that is in a new stage of development
after production (still in process, work that would gain from the chance to
work explore with actors for a few weeks), because the Carnival is in part
a chance for our community to connect with and learn from new work
development as it happens. The Carnival presents a series of one act and
short plays, in full productions, workshops, and readings, over the course
of two weekends, along with post-show discussions with playwrights,
dramaturgs, directors, actors, and designers on their process and practice
in developing this work. This year’s Carnival runs January 20-29, 2017,
with rehearsals beginning January 9. In 2016 we presented over twenty new
plays in rotating repertory during two weekends. Please email your scripts
in Word or PDF format for consideration with cover letter or email
hhcarnival2017 at gmail.com. Participating playwrights are paid for their
work. Travel stipend and housing may be available as well.
*About Hubbard Hall*
Located in the village of Cambridge, NY on the Vermont border, Hubbard Hall
includes a campus of four buildings, with an 1878 Opera house and three
renovated Freight Yard buildings housing the main stage, art studio, music
room, dance studio, arts exhibit space, black box theater, village store,
artists cooperative, and the Cambridge Community Garden. We are an arts
incubator, a training ground for artists of all ages and backgrounds, a
magnet for artistic activity, a safe haven for risk taking, an economic
driver for our region, and the beating heart of our community. We gather
people from all walks of life to create, learn, and grow together, while
developing, producing, and presenting world-class art and artists. We are
dedicated to cultivating, sustaining, and promoting the cultural life of
our rural community. We are also committed to restoring and preserving
Hubbard Hall and all of the buildings on our campus as community cultural
assets. The 2016-2017 Season includes *Peter and the Starcatcher*, the *Winter
Carnival of New Work*, *The Book Club Play* by Karen Zacarias, and
Tennessee Williams’ *The Glass Menagerie*.
