The Town Players of Pittsfield announces staged reading auditions on Tuesday, Oct. 25, from 6 to 8 p.m., on the second floor of the Whitney Center for the Arts, 42 Wendell Avenue, Pittsfield.

Auditions will be held for two readings, which will both be staged at 2 p.m., on Sunday, Nov. 27, also at the Whitney.

"Overtones," a one-act play by Alice Gerstenberg, directed by Jerry Greene, treats the audience to a showdown, a fierce battle of wits between two ladies of sophistication and etiquette, and their bloodthirsty inner selves. Though on the outside Harriet and Margaret are polite, cool and collected, Hetty and Maggie rage within and make their true motives known. Needed for the cast are four women of any age.

The second reading, "The Book of Herself," directed by Jenn Smith, is a Japanese Noh-theater inspired one-act drama by the late local playwright, Frances Benn Hall, from her collection, "Ezra's Noh for Willie." Set in Ireland, writer Lady Gregory Augusta is called to a mountain in the mist where she encounters Grania, a character from her pages, and ultimately a mirror for herself. Needed for the cast are two women of any age, two observers/co-narrators of any gender and age.

No monologues needed. Sides from the plays will be provided at the auditions.
