Synopsis

LITTLE CREEK
Just south of the Mason-Dixon line in Delaware in the 1950s, two young
girls await the release of their mother from confinement (or is it a ‘50’s
incarceration?) in a mental institution. Their aunt now acts as their
guardian in the Garden Court apartment complex whose grounds are tenderly
cared for by a disturbed racist. The summer heat rises when the girls’
mother is released from the mental hospital and a young black boy from
Chicago trespasses on the property. Conflicting personalities and disparate
approaches to life, two sets of sisters find each other in the green world
of Little Creek.
Some adult language and one adult sexual provocation

Seeking actors for the following roles:

Character Breakdown

JUDY Almost eight. (ROLE MAY BE CAST WITH OLDER CHILD) Judy is an old-soul,
quite precocious and possibly prescient, with massive amounts of
imagination and energy. She appears to be capable of surviving just about
anything. She is wearing a sundress that doesn’t fit well.

JANET Thirteen. (ROLE MAY BE CAST WITH OLDER TEEN) Judy’s sister. Janet is
dressed like an older teen, but there’s serious tomboy energy here. She is
tough, even in her early adolescent rawness. Her heart is starving and she
behaves at times like a wounded beast.

MATTHEW Thirteen. (ROLE MAY BE CAST WITH OLDER TEEN) Black. He is serious,
gentle and very bright. He carries a violin case and walks with a mission.
(In production would need to play violin well; violin skills not necessary
for this reading.)

WALTER Mid thirties to early forties. Walter is a gentle, careful and deep
soul. Black. He wears hundreds of years of history on his shoulders and a
scar on his heart and, in spite of all that or perhaps because of it, is
completely present in the moment.
