*Eidolon Theater adaptation of  The Monkey’s Paw by W. W. Jacobs*



Open auditions for “The Monkey’s Paw” Halloween variety show.  All roles
open.



*Format:*  A staged blacklight (ultraviolet lighting) presentation in
format of a Halloween-themed variety show.

The story of *“THE MONKEY’S PAW*” is presented in 3 scenes separated by
blacklight acts.



*Performance location:           The Troy Gasholder Building, 1115 5th
Avenue, Troy, NY*

*Performance dates:               October 20-22 (Friday 8:00 pm, Saturday
8:00 pm, Sunday 3:00 pm). *



*Audition dates:*                       September 6 & 7, O’Brien’s Public
House, 43 3rd Street, Troy, NY 7 – 10 pm

                                                *Alternate times and dates
might be arranged upon request.*

            *The audition will consist of cold readings from the play, and
dance movement or improvised action *



*Story:*  A soldier brings a memento from his adventures in the Far East to
the home of a friend, condemning the friend and his family to tragedy and
terror.  4 speaking roles under standard lighting.

*Roles:* *Morris*              Sgt Morris, a retired mercenary and
childhood friend of Mr. White.  Dour disposition.

            *Mr. White*        Husband, father, dreamer, with a continual
reserve of humor.  [Wallace]

            *Mrs. White*      Mother, wife, homemaker, matriarch.  Dotes on
son, Herbert.  [Evie]

            *Herbert  *         Son, Navy enlistee--just discharged, has
father’s humorous disposition. *[Some mime]*



*VARIETY ACTS**:*  20 to 24 non-speaking roles (2 roles for children),
performers may be cast in multiple roles, dancing and non-dancing.  All
roles require ability to move freely and integrate into choreography.
 Choreographers sought, and ideas for additional acts will be considered
for inclusion.  Puppets are adult-sized, perform dance routines, and
controlled by “invisible” puppeteers dressed in black. 3 to 4
“shadow-hands”, dressed in black, perform in background to assist the
visible performers.



            *Arachnostreggae ...*   4 to 6 dancers.     Lively comic dance
routine to contemporary music.

            *Sweet Tweet   ...  ...*  2 dancers, 3 dancing puppeteers.
Comic vaudeville routine.

            *Devils’ Hill      ...  ...*    Act with multiple, varied dance
routines.  8 to 12 performers.  A gypsy maiden
                    visits a graveyard where she is captured and forced to
join a battle to save the
spirit of a young girl from undead marauders.  For dancers and non-dancers.
                                                    The highlight of scene
is a swirling gypsy dance.  Choreographer desired.

            *Buzzard Pie    ...  ...*    4 to 6 dancers.
    Comic swing dance routine, blacklight costumes

            *Pierrot Dreams   …*    2 ballet dancers (1 male, 1 female), 1
non-dancer. Dance and mimed actions.

*            Polar Snooze ...  ...   *Clown mime with 2 adult performers
and one child. Non-dance, costumed*. *
